Dave Cortex - DECEMBER 2012 PROMO MIX

Funkedge kicks off 2013 with a proper 4-track taste of things to come.  Starting things off is "Google Translate", the product of an international 3-way collaboration.

Spain's Sergio Navarro was in DC for a weekend playing a gig with Dave Cortex, and the next day they jumped in the studio. The only problem with that neither of the two were very fluent in each other's language -- so the track earned it's namesake by being the primary method of communication throughout the entire session. After that translated into a banging groove, Josh Harnois walked in and played what may be the most epic instrumental breakdown ever.

Silk Royal is thrilled to present Silk Remixed 03, the third installment of the annual series, featuring various veteran talents and rising stars in progressive. Three of the tracks included in the compilation were first "previewed" on April's Silk Royal Showcase 03 compilation, while three others (remixes by Terry Da Libra, Dave Cortex, and eleven.five) are completely new. All six cuts are now available for the first time as full, DJ-friendly versions.

American veteran producer-DJ Dave Cortex, who has contributed to all three editions of Silk Remixed, returns with a characteristically funky and dancefloor-oriented rendering of Peter Illias's "Let Me Be." Joined on this one by recent collaborator Josh Harnois, Cortex delivers another memorable groove, which combines beautifully with various disco-flavored samples and evocative vocal effects.

Washington DC house music artist Dave Cortex is internationally known for his groove-heavy original productions and remixes, with support from industry veterans as diverse as Fedde Le Grand, Hernan Cattaneo, Tydi, and Grammy-winners Dirty Vegas.  And long before ever stepping into the studio, Dave was DJing across the US, known for both his peak-time headlining sets in Miami, San Francisco and beyond; with deeper opening sets for legendary artists like Josh Wink, Kaskade, BT, etc.

For Proton Radio's Featured Artist mix, Dave lays down a signature set of his rhythm & bass-fueled funk, fusing elements of house, techno & progressive.   Well know for his mix programming skills, Dave employs a variety of mixing styles throughout, including 4-minute 'mashup' mixes and even 3 tracks simultaneously, when appropriate.

Starting out in deep house territory, the warm vibes gradually build tension while twisting through a diverse collection of musical release.  By the end, things are in full-on peak time territory, leading to an audacious and indulgent close.  Enjoy!
