Being a child of the 80's, I grew up listening to the theme from Taxi, which then prepped me for Steely Dan music. It's a Jersey / New York sound. I can't not hear this sound mixed with the music I spend most of my life making, which is current worship music. So, I guess I can't not make a Donald Fagan version of one of our most famous worship songs by Bethel Music, "Reckless Love." We are products of our environment! Well..... here goes! 

Grateful to have my studio here at the church and also use such great instruments, some of which I've had for decades. Been playing these Yamaha drums since 1990. Metric Halo studio interface is new, and sounds fantastic.

A few years ago in the church office / studio at Trinity, I started working on this arrangement. 5 days later, it was finished. Fun fact: this one was all recorded with one Rode NT microphone. (live drums, bass, acoustic guitar, keyboards, and vocals.) This melody always gets me, and is one of my all time favorite hymns. Enjoy!

My friends and I got to make this beautiful video of O Come Emmanuel. We are so excited to share our musical take on this ancient hymn with you!  Sit for a moment, take a breath, and enjoy. As we look to Christmas, we are reminded how we are still waiting for the healing of all that is still broken. We hope and we long for healing. God, we need you. "O Come thou dayspring, come and cheer our spirits by thine advent, here. Disperse the gloomy clouds of night. And death's dark shadows put to flight."

Occasionally at the church studio, I spend some time making demos documenting what I consider to be something tied to the culture and musical flavor of the New York Metro region. I love this area and have spent nearly 45 years of my life here. Over the past 20 years, I've had the pleasure of worshipping Jesus with so many different people who represent a rich tapestry from around here. I love this area with a passion and love Jesus who along side being who He is, is "my anchor in the waves" and "is my song." 

This version of King of my Heart is my north-east take on this current well-known worship song floating around the church these days. It starts out kinda normal, but I added a little spice near the end :) It was definitely fun to do in church the past few weeks. 

And for those asking lately if I record anything, I guess the answer is yes via facebook and soundcloud. Hope you like!

Dave Edwards is a New York–area musical director and multi-instrumentalist who appears to move effortlessly between jazz, rock, classical, and worship music. Decades of ensemble experience and deep study have made him a rare performer and collaborator on upright and electric bass, drums, piano, acoustic guitar, and voice - especially as a worship leader.

He has performed or recorded with Gloria Gaynor, KANSAS, the Smithsonian Chamber Players, The New Jersey Symphony Chamber Players, The Ed Palermo (Frank Zappa) Big Band, John Patitucci, Oz Noy, Mike Stern, and Randy Brecker, with appearances at Lincoln Center, Birdland, CBGB’s, the White House, and the United Nations.

Trained from an early age at the American Boychoir School, Dave was later mentored by conductors John Kuzma and Mark Laycock. Classical training formed him as a young musician, but he couldn’t escape the pull of jazz and classic and progressive rock, especially on drums and bass. He eventually joined the Princeton High Studio Band, performing Whiplash on bass and drums, and earning awards for Outstanding Bassist and Drummer at Berklee’s national jazz competition with the first-place Studio Band - the same band and song that inspired the film Whiplash.


He went on to study piano performance and conducting at Indiana University, performing with the Trenton Symphony and Greater Princeton Youth Orchestra, before turning to jazz studies inspired by his newfound love for small group ensemble playing. Dave continued to engage in classical performance as pianist and assistant to conductor Murry Colosimo of the Wayne Chamber Orchestra in Wayne, NJ.

In the Christian music world, Dave has worked alongside Kathy Troccoli, Gary Chapman, and Wayne Watson. As a featured worship leader, Dave served at events alongside John Ortberg, Luis Palau, Tim Keller, Rick Warren, N.T. Wright, Francis Chan, and John Piper.

As a recording artist and session player, Dave’s drumming and bass work appear in sample libraries and licensing collections including Big Fish Audio’s Vintage Big Band, Funk/Soul City, and Vegas Loops, as well as TV and film scoring projects.

Drawn by faith in his twenties, Dave began what has become a 30-year career as a Worship & Arts Leader, mentoring over 120 musicians and technical artists known for their musical excellence, camaraderie, and authenticity.
