February 8, 2017. The Winter Storm named Niko begins to cross the Midwest to desend on New York and the coastal cities. My wife's cousin Miha was taking his first visit to the United States from Slovenia for the winter holidays, and from December to February. Specifically, he lives at Fara which is in Nova Vas village in the Bloke municipality. We were so glad he came to stay with us in our home in beautiful Willoughby Hills Ohio.
During his stay with us, he decided to take a side trip to Las Vegas and through a series of unfortunate incidents that ended in his broken foot, the details will remain in Vegas as they say, he had to return to our home and cut his vacation short. So rather than have him hobbling on a bus, my wife and I decided to personally drive him to Kennedy airport ourselves overruling his plan. We had originally thought to leave at 3 AM on Thursday morning but since news of Winter Storm Nico, we decided to give ourselves extra time and leave early, at 9 PM on Wednesday. We planned to pull an all-nighter to beat the storm. Winter Storm Nico had some other plans for us! The storm's fury quickly descended on us by 2am as we were nearing Kylertown in central Pennsylvania, stranding us on I-80, stuck for five hours. 
It was during this time where I couldn't sleep with the determination that somehow, someway we're going to make sure that Miha made it back home safely. So it was in that five hours where Joyce and Miha fell asleep and I stayed up. Waiting. Watching. The idea for the song was developing subconsciously in my mind. It was five hours later when I saw the plow truck coming at us to clear the path ahead. Relief! We were moving again. We had to take a detour to avoid other sections of I 80 that were blocked. That was when we had the Allport Cutoff and the 970 road to get back on I-80 and make our way back to Kennedy airport. 
We successfully delivered Miha to the airport on time, at 1 o'clock on Thursday for his 2:40pm Air Serbia flight. 
I'm so glad I brought my guitar on this trip! When Joyce and I finally got to our lodging, the music came almost immediately and the lyrics followed shortly thereafter to commemorate and remember our epic journey. 
We learned that being prepared by having a full tank, water, and snacks is crucial on a long trip in the northern United States in winter. But more importantly, family is first. We do these things out of love and caring for others. Finally, while we may travel far and wide, there's no place like home.
By the way, as life has its epic twists, we found out later that Miha's flight out of JFK was delayed for five hours! Go figure.
