This time, I played one of Led Zeppelin's signature songs, "Stairway to Heaven," on a nylon string electric acoustic guitar.
This song is included on Led Zeppelin's fourth album. The album sold over 29 million copies worldwide and was certified platinum in the United States.
Like all guitarists who consider themselves avid Led Zeppelin fans, I love this song and often play it lightly when tuning my guitar. I omitted the effect processing and simply adjusted the volume and uploaded it. I noticed that it sounded more boosted than when recording the chord strokes in the second half. Since it's a Led Zeppelin piece, I thought it might not be a bad idea to listen to it in this condition.
Personally, I hope that everyone can feel that the nylon strings (end type) that come with the two electric acoustic guitars fit perfectly into the guitar itself.
Winter is over in Japan, and we are about to enter the spring season, but I chose this piece as the final part of this winter's nylon string solo performance series. After this, I'm starting to look forward to the possibility of using a nylon string guitar to complete some of the collaborative pieces that I've been unable to complete.

Prelude To Nowhere.

Well, let’s see…. Glad you dropped by because you get to listen to some dobro, on a new, very different version of ‘By The Sea’. https://soundcloud.com/lammbone/living-by-the-sea . When I first penned out the lyrics, there was so much going on thematically. ‘Alligator’ adds some of the original lyrics that were left out first time around as the saga continues. I had melded together experiences from my 67 years of living by cherry picking events and blending them into a singular situation, which would have make for a long song in its totality, that by nature, I shy away from, unless I am jamming. Haha. What does this all mean? First off, as an old man who finds himself reminiscing and daydreaming, there are some cathartic moments to be had in hindsight of one’s life. Looking back momentarily in the rearview is a prudent way to temper the trajectory of one’s life, especially if it has been a rocky road. Another facet of this is a personal extrication from a life one has been living, to find another way more suitable to one’s existence. In other words, the changes we make in our life to survive. There is also some grief and regret, that melt away over time. So maybe several more songs are on the horizon that elaborate on these experiences and what they mean to me. Hope you like this song. I became curious about the arrangement development and transition process that different artist use during the course of a song.  The main question I was dealing with was what are the subtle things a composer does to keep the song interesting throughout the entire song arrangement? 

Human Beings like repetition but not duplication.  What I mean is that we like to grab hold of a catchy melody or rhythm and desire coming back to it a couple of times throughout a song. However, we notice when it’s an exact copy of something we have heard earlier in the song (we are very smart creatures).  I have been guilty of copying an earlier verse or chorus and plopping it note for note down later in the song…DON”T DO THIS.   It is important to add something new, different and exciting as the song progresses.   Give the listener something new every step of the way.   During this song I learned from other artists who are very good at this and tried to emulate some of their techniques.      

I continued my study of sampling during this latest musical project.  What better genre than Electronic Dance Music (EDM) to showcase the technology.  This song is called “Be All You” which rolled off the tongue so easy and blended so well with my particular groove established early on in the song.  As is typical with EDM you will hear plenty of tension building synthesizer magic teamed up with EDM traditional “four to the floor” kicks.  This partnership often ending in pregnant pauses or nail biting drum fills foreshadowing what is famously known in EDM as the “Drop” where all that tension explodes into an epic Chorus eruption.    

I used software known as Kontakt for the sampling.  There is a lot under the “hood” here and I have much to learn.  I used my own voice as the experimental fodder and basically split it up into slices and mapped them to my keyboard keys.  Then, via special algorithms in the software, essentially “time stretched” my voice to my songs own tempo.   This process maintained the rhythmic integrity to my voice slices despite the pitch changes (remember; typically if you bring something up in frequency it wants to play faster .....the chipmunk voice effect….I did not want that).   You can hear examples of this “vocoder” like effect sprinkled throughout the song.  What fun.  

SO who cares about all this technical crap anyway.  They key is that the song has to hold up on its own and actually be GOOD.  I believe I have achieved that as I noticed I want to dance when I listen to it.
