POEM
VERSE1
Went to the mountains
To break the status quo.
For the reasons people go, to grow.
The eagles, the elk, the clean air.
Myself - to get to know.

VERSE2
Climbing up the ridge,
From the meadow below,
Arriving at the peak, rocky trail plateaus.
Stones loomed above me,
Fighting rain and snow.
Million years of winds that blow.

CHORUS1
Why do we go? Why do you ask?
To see such beauty that may not last.
Just like you, let me be free.
Let us have peace. Let me be me.
Agree?... See?.. This is key!

VERSE3
Something moved, casting shadows below.
What lives there?
What wildlife will show?
Expecting an eagle to spread its wings,
Then I hear a sound I know.

VERSE4
The call of an old black crow.
Not dressed for the occasion.
Not moved much by persuasion.
Wrong equation. Odd sensation.

Crow looked down,
At the people on the ground,
In a way, as if to say, “Hey”
Just like you, let me be free.
Let me have peace. Let me be me.
Agree?... See?.. This is key!

Independent bird,
Follows his own tempo.
Doesn’t take orders well.
Like to keep it simple.

Clever bird. Often met with abrasion.
Perhaps you are a better symbol,
Of this nation.

If we want to make it for the full duration,
We better show more toleration.
No tomorrows. Too many sorrows.
Time, you just can’t borrow.
