As I'm sure most of you already know, the Godfather of House, Frankie Knuckles, passed away yesterday. My chest has been tight with a heavy heart ever since I found out. At first I found this a little odd because I didn't know him personally. He's not a family friend or a close relative.

Over the last couple of hours though I've realised that I feel this way because of the music he made that inspired me. Ever since I got into House Frankie has been there. His tunes have both rocked my world and the clubs I've played and there is no doubt that this legendary DJ and producer changed the face of music, changed me, changed my life.

The title of this mix is a quote I saw multiple times on Facebook this morning. I don't know who originally quoted it, but I do know this; whenever House Music heads get together to remember him we will all say... 

'Without Him There Was No Us'.

Welcome to Part 2 of the Hacienda special Word Is Love show where we continue to celebrate some of the finest Dance music that played on the Hacienda Dancefloor in Manchester, U.K. throughout the late 80's and into the 90's.

This time round there are remixes of New Order, Happy Monday's, Primal Scream and Sub Sub with tracks by Andrew Weatherall, Todd Terry, 808 State, K-Klass, Roland Clark and Farley 'Jackmaster' Funk including some familiar classic Floor Fillers you may recognise.

This second part of the Word Is Love show special focuses on House, Acid House, Electro and Techno with several deeper tracks and breaks.

It's a unique Hacienda experience covering a number of genre's showcasing the broad range of music that used to frequent this iconic club over the years.

This will be my final longer set isolation type mix which is a little different to the normal , the mix contains tunes mainly house and early rave from the era '1988 - 1993' when i began my DJ journey , however each tune has had the Dr Packer treatment to it in some form such as an edit , rework or full remix so they are not the original versions. 
So to make things clearer it is music i used to play as 'Greg Packer' but reworked in a way that i do now as 'Dr Packer' with the help of some fellow producers such as 'Grant Nelson , Michael Gray , HiFi Sean' for eg who provided some great remixes from the same era.

My mix from The Haçienda's 24 hour live stream on New Years Eve 2020.

All of the tracks I featured were from the opening two years of the ‘90s. I hadn’t set out to do this, but it was very much guided by the opening track I’d chosen, in memory of two irreplaceables we lost that year, DJ icon Andrew Weatherall and Manchester’s own Denise Johnson, both crucial to Primal Scream’s ‘Come Together’, which is followed by Weatherall’s mix of ‘Only Love Can Break Your Heart’ by Saint Etienne, whilst Denise’s vocals feature on the lesser-known gem ‘Dream Beam’ by Hypnotone.

The event, hosted by United We Stream GM, had begun at 10am with Hewan Clarke, the club’s original resident, and concluded at 10am on NYD morning with Peter Hook. I followed on from Norman Jay MBE and DJ Paulette, and seeing all the comments on social media, it was soon clear that a lot of people felt a strong emotional response watching the DJs, some among their all-time favourites, playing much-loved tunes in empty spaces, devoid of the dancers who made that music make sense in the first place – a sad, but poignant parody. Also appearing were Haçienda Classical, Inner City, Phuture, Carl Craig, Danny Tenaglia DJ, Dj David Morales, DJ Woody, Graeme Park, Jon Dasilva, Justin Robertson, K-Klass, Moby, Soul Central, Sub Sub, Todd Terry, Tom Wainwright and Tony Humphries. It was line-up, even including a tribute to Frankie Knuckles by way of a recording of the house legend’s 2013 NYE appearance for The Haçienda at Albert Hall, Manchester.

Known for his widely authentic blend of genres like Disco, Funk, Soul, Deep House, Italo Disco and Nudisco, Dave’s journey into music began in the producer’s chair where he started tackling an array of productions with House & Deep House tracks, and quickly began solidifying a style that shares equal parts originality and familiarity, giving his audience a taste of something fresh yet still identifiable. 
 
After several years of honing his craft and putting together a solid chemistry in his musical approach, Dave’s name became more familiar throughout his scene and began garnering positive reception throughout his scene. Currently, he has been releasing music with several Australian and European labels, as well as DJing in both continental scenes as well. His most notable work has been his edits and remixes that include nostalgic songwriting arrangements, grooves, and an innovative modern style that has successfully expanded his artistic merit in contributing his important work for both the Australian and European markets.  
 
On top of remixes, he has been crafting together his own material as well, orientated to several modern touches to deep house, balearic and nudisco to the wide spectrum of electronic music.
