Live @ Skala, Paleochora, Crete, 12-08-13 - Part 1

This is an old mix from my time at Ministry Of Sound Radio.  I did a weekly show on there for about three years.  It was great because, like my days on Kiss, I would just show up and play whatever I liked.  This mix is kind of trancey and psychedelic, but still house. . . before it goes into some old Italo, Aphex Twin and Roxy Music towards the end.

Every year at Swag one of us would do a Christmas Mix to give away to our customers and friends and 2004 was my turn. I remember Stubsy moaning that it wasn't "Xmasy enough", which I felt was a little unfair given the closing track and tittle. No pleasing some people . . . Reach out and touch faith

this is an old mix from my time on kiss 100 - i'm guessing late 90's - when i was still standing in for colin dale.  it's interesting listening back to how different house music was back then - i don't think there's a single breakdown in the entire set and the sound is a lot less 'electronic' than the stuff i play nowadays.  there's annoying dip in volume at around 27 minutes - i think this must be because i asked the producer to cut out my links on the recording - even if they do appear later on.  anyway, i hope you like mix.

This is the second mix in a series that ran for about 3 years on the US station Proton.  I did 51 in the end, but this remains one of the best imo.  It also pretty much established the sound and direction that the series took.  I  used to call it "psychedelic house" back then and I think that label still fits.

This is a set I played in Serbia back in 2005. The sound is pure 00's house - apart from the Depeche Mode tracks, obv. It's a style that, at the time of writing, isn't old enough to be cool again yet. But I liked these songs back then, and I still like them now. It was all vinyl in those days, so if you listen carefully, you can hear the crowd in the quiet parts. Viva 00's!

This is an old mix from my days at the wonderful little echo system of independent music, free thinking and full on partying that was Swag Records. It was recorded at some point in 1999 at Rob Pearson's old  studio in West Croydon. It's kind of fast because we were all on drugs at least 70% of the time back then. We gave CDs of it away to our regular customers as part of our Swag Records mix series. I feel like it captures a little bit of the vibe from those times.

This is the first part from a set I played in Denver, Colorado in 2002. The guys that put on the party ran a great label called Casa Del Soul. They were a bit like a US version of Swag back then. A couple of years later they went on to start Beatport, which is really something, but back when I first played for them they were just a bunch of cool guys who loved DJ'ing, making records and raving. Good days.

We did a party in memory of a dear friend of ours, Bob De Rosa, one of the great unsung heroes of the early tech house scene in London. He wasn't as well known as he deserved to be to the world at large, but he was loved by all that knew him, immensely popular and a real father / brother figure to many of us.
