Bright, warm and daydreamy - those were the emotion I tried to paint in No Way. It's a song that celebrates my philosophy of following your heart.
Self-produced in my locked-down home studio (performing all instruments but bass guitar), building this song has been live-giving through it's meditative process.
I'm hoping that this tune spreads some happiness to others.

Since debuting in 2009 with the Addiction EP, Dave Power has used the art of songwriting to document his life capturing the essence of who he is and what he has done with his time on this planet. The lessons encoded in Dave's musical autobiography are varied shades of the human condition from milestones such as fatherhood, to epiphanies about life, love and loss often married in the same song. Kicking off 2023 with one of his greatest works to date, Dave has unveiled Life Is That Much Sweeter With You a masterful meeting of balladeer and band that delivers another essential, insightful chapter to this ever unfolding story.

Toe-tapping, back-slapping, bluesy good time fun - that's what Sweet Lovin' is all about. The theme is simple too - a dudes desperate journey back to his woman who's needing that 'itch' scratched. I wrote the tune the afternoon of my band's first gig and sprung it on them as a closing tune - worked a treat and had the punters up dancing around.. ah good times! We've played it a number of times since including a few times live on local radio stations and it always seems to get the feet tapping.

Returning to his trademark of tender balladry after taking an artistic detour through the blues, Dave Power's latest EP is yet another solid accomplishment by the consummate songwriter. Combining sunny, uplifting music and existential musings, his new work is still deeply introspective, with a gentle, lighthearted approach to melody. From the joyous opening notes of Waiting For Life, Dave presents fans with a beautiful portrait of the world that he has quite appropriately titled Perspective. 

 

Partly a new chapter in his ever-growing songbook and partly a journal of his own thoughts,  Perspective is a very personal and revealing record for the talented Brisbane musician. Joined by his 14 year old daughter Amy, Dave has poured his heart and soul into Perspective, making it his most reflective and thoughtful work to date. Less stylised than his stomping 2019 release Steinman Carrera & the New Suit of Blues, though no less a good time, Perspective earns its rightful place in Dave's stunning discography. 

 

Filled with wonderment and gratitude, each feelgood song is overflowing with Dave's love for life. The beautiful Our Paradise flows like a love letter to the universe – an acknowledgement of the beauty that surrounds and binds us all. On the touching Haze, Dave delves deep into his past, singing of lessons learned and experiences hard earned. It is on the charmingly summery Lost With You though that Dave brings out the biggest guns. Joined by his sweetly-voiced daughter Amy, he turns the song into a proud Power family moment, proving that the apple does not fall far from the tree. 

 

It is wonderfully fitting to see a new Power talent rising, as Perspective takes Dave into new revelations both as an artist and as a human being. “As I get older I'm starting to see, maybe things are black and white” he sings on the contemplative Been Wondering. But such honesty is nothing new for Dave, who has built a career on authenticity. From his 2009 debut Addiction, to 2013's stunning Looking Life In The Eye, to 2015's masterful Handful Of Feathers, Dave has always delved deep into his own soul... and Perspective follows this tradition with confidence and humility.  

 

Produced by Jordan Power, and featuring the stellar lineup of multi-instrumentalist Matthew Engelbrecht (Bernard Fanning), drummer Grant Gerathy (John Butler Trio) and composition guru Andy Scott on strings, Perspective is not only a new feather in Dave Power's cap, it is evidence of a songwriter only getting better with time. Even as he begins to pass the metaphorical torch to the next generation of his talented family, it is clear that Dave Power's greatest work still lies ahead of him.
