The Ones That Got Away. In a world awash with music, we all have those tunes that are special to us, heart-achingly magnificent moments preserved in aspic in our memories…but which never got the moment in the sun they so richly deserve. 

  A DJ can campaign for such wonders ceaselessly, sharing them far and wide. Or you can go one step further, as Dave Seaman chose to do here with an anthemic, inspirational track that he had held dear for many years:  

“'Hold On' was one that got away for me. I loved the original back in 1991 and always thought it never got the recognition it should have, so it had been in the back of my mind for 30+ years that one day I'd revisit it. The idea resurfaced when I found the original 12” whilst sifting through my vinyl collection, and via the magic of AI managed to extract the vocal to give it a go,” explains Selador’s head honcho.

  The pedigree of ‘Hold On’ cannot be in doubt, co-written / produced by the inimitable Youth, king of dubwise excursions from Killing Joke to Blue Pearl via Dragonfly Records, The Verve and so many more on his storied C, it was originally released on his WAU/Mr Modo imprint. He has given his blessing to Dave’s mighty revival of his baby – as, crucially, has singer Shola Phillips, who imbues the impassioned words with the perfect but oh so hard to achieve balance of power and subtlety, a timeless tour de force vocal performance.

  “I’m really happy with the result and 32 years later, the lyrical sentiment has never been more pertinent“ concludes Dave.

Lockdown Live #2 - My Birthday Livestream

Summertime is upon us and here to usher in the season, albeit in rather strange circumstances, label boss Dave Seaman returns to notch up his 13th single for Selador.

Serving up a straight ace in the form of ‘Racket Abuse’, Dave brings his A-game, a raucous affair of growling electronics and sweet soul voices that combine to create the perfect modern juxtaposition. They say opposites attract! Fifteen love. 

Canadian producer Jake Fairley, aka Fairmont then masterfully returns service with a thunderous outright winner of a remix. Cranking up the wonkiness to 11 and parading it’s muscle like one of Joe Exotic’s prowling tigers. Proper bad boy. 

And finally Mexican starlet Theus Mago takes the third set, bringing his deft touch into play with a cleverly crafted take. Adding a little Spanish flair and a culture clash of influences, this one hits you where it hurts. New balls please! 

And there you have it.. Game, set & match.

Racket Abuse

PREMIERE 'Racket Abuse' (Original Mix) [SELADOR]

One of the biggest disappointments for me of this entire Covid fiasco was when Glastonbury was forced to cancel. It’s always one of the highlights of my summer and this year (which was to be the 50th anniversary) I was due to play a main Saturday night slot on the Glade Stage so double sad emoji ☹️☹️
In its place, the best we were able to do was to join forces for a 4 day online event which will hopefully go a little way to filling the massive void. So as part of an amazing Glade Stage virtual line-up, here's a set I recorded especially for the occasion. 
Hope it helps get you you into the Glastonbury spirit.
