I went for a run.

This time without my roller-blades.

I wondered if I really liked running.

A year ago I would have said not.

I ran anyway.

I liked it.

When I said this to myself in the shower I made myself laugh.

I think I'd prefer to play a game.

Tennis I enjoy.

Some guys were playing a kind of volleyball but like football.

Brazilian maybe.

I'm sitting in the sun and sweating.

It's lovely to be warm.

There are drops of sweat falling off my face into my lap.

In the shower I generously rubbed each bum cheek and thought what a nice bum.

haha.

I'm alive.

This is particularly amazing.

I am thankful.

I said it to a friend the other day to emphasise how basic my situation was.

I said I was a lot better.

But really the main thing was that I was alive.

I ran like the other day and smiled.

I occasionally chuckled.

Whatever I've been through this last year I'm here.

It's been amazing.

And terrifying.

And amazing.

And terrifying.

And amazing.

And some things inbetween.

I attended the funeral of my second cousin.

A web stream.

I nearly missed it but thankfully my Dad remembered while we chatted.

I was worried about it.

About attending a church service.

Because the last church service I attended I went as cold as ice and had to turn it off.

I then hurriedly did some exercise and something else in the bathroom just to get some warmth again.

So I was a bit hesitant.

However, my concerns were unnecessary in the end thankfully.

The letter from my second cousin's friend was beautiful.

So much love.

I didn't have much connection to her.

So I felt a bit distant.

A web stream would do this too but we didn't keep contact.

I remember her being beautiful.

Very attractive.

I remember a close friend fancying her.

I also fancied her.

I met her at a do, which I've been saying was the university ball.

Quite unexpected.

I was a bit drunk.

And I completely fell for her.

Anyway, while the pastor read more of another letter he said she was beautiful inside and out.

I immediately thought of ten burgers.

I had written these words to her.

That she was so so so so (a Linnea amount of sos, which is to say a lot) beautiful inside and out.

And I stand by that now as I did then.

I said out loud.

I love you mon amour.

Where are you?

I'm told it ain't going to happen.

It's like people are suggesting I find a girlfriend.

I was in the park today and yesterday and both days I saw couples doing their thing in the park.

One couple the girl sat on the floor and the boy did keep-ups with a football.

Another couple had a skateboard that they took turns on.

Another were super-sporty, the mom pushed a pram while the dad did his exercise regime, and the daughter followed suit.

Another couple lay back on the stones and pointed at clouds.

And for me I would be happy to practice dance or movement together, trying or practising dance. 

Or a kind of capo-era. 

And then sit with an ice-cream.

Am I being real.

I don't know.

Right now I don't care.

What I know is the two recent pieces of music I've made I've danced to afterwards when listening back.

So I know I enjoy dancing and movement.

I don't know because.

I noticed something recently.

I feel it is like I have or have had so much empathy that I take on the thing subject/object (always struggled with those two).

Ah, who knows.

I thought I was on to something.

But the other day I played a couple of jazz pieces from a book.

And the next thing was I made a jazzy piece up.

So what I'm trying to say is.

I'm not sure I knew myself because I took on what I perceived of others.

I want to delete all the analysis bit now.

I leave it because I re-read it and it wasn't so bad.

The service was beautiful.

The music at the end was beautiful.

Dare to live.

This is my attempt at a miss-you song.

It's not going to be any good.

I listened to an album by [Something] Persona [I recall now, Fractured Persona, leant to me proudly by a college friend].

I felt so sorry for the lead guitarist that it put me off writing any form of break-up or miss-you song.

When you were gone a friend suggested I focus my creative energy into such songs.

He didn't know how much that album had effected me.

I said something like yes, but silently resolved to avoid such misery and write love songs instead.

This I did.

And I'm glad I did.

However another friend recently suggested similar and showed that it can be cute.

So here I am.

Writing a miss-you song.

Dancer, when are you going to drop me a line, literally send me a message, stay at mine, wine and dine, although I prefer coffee liqueur, taste my curry it's sublime just for the rhyme, share ice-cream, melt chocolate, gooey marsh-mellows :), hold my hand and watch sunsets and sunrises, look into each other's eyes and inside relax sigh contentedly, both be shy and then watch each other perform with confidence in a daily task like talking to someone or at some public event, go for a walk amongst the trees, grass, birdsong, daisies, butterfly bushes, say something stupid, want to do things but don't, do things but didn't want to, and then sometimes get it soo right it is the best thing ever, stubborn as a mule, compliant as a mouse, I don't know, just anything as long as it's with you.

As songs go this one has no tune yet, well at least it didn't when I wrote it.
It's more a poem.

Maybe I'll call William Shatner and ask him to poetically rock this poem over a backing-track of bird calls, waves and trees rushing in the wind, with Leonard Nimoy doing mind-melding visuals.

Maybe I'll attempt it with the guitar in a random series of chords, covered in avocado with a rose behind my ear.

Maybe I'll put it in the description of a completely unrelated piano track at 3am in my pjs wondering whether to eat something and weighing that up against having to brush my teeth again.

Maybe I'll put it in the comment of someone else's track to make it a challenge to find then only to find the character count is too great for a single comment and after creating many comments they all appear in the wrong order and rightly get deleted by the artist.

Maybe there is a logical flaw with one or two of these maybes.

Maybe I miss you.

It's not like I've thought about you every day.

It's not like if Independence Day, the movie, actually happened I would call you to say I love you before being zapped by an alien.

It's not like I wrote a miss you song.

I wouldn't do that.

I couldn't.

I would lose my lead guitarist.

And then I'd have to write another miss-you song.

I fear there's a point when miss-you songs would never stop.

I could have stopped a few lines ago.

It would have been a much better end.

However I can finish in a more traditional way.

The end.



A worse option.

So I continue.

erm.

I could delete.

But I was doing so well.

I stand on the shoulders of giants.

and

say

I'd like the chance to get to know you.

I'd like to think we'd get on.

We might not.

But that's ok.

I can't, otherwise I wouldn't be writing this song slash poem in a classic avoidance tactic style thing.

If you said fancy a walk I'd reply yes.

Then after a week or more of happy silence we'd figure out the when and where.

I was in Phoenix Park

A man crouched down infront of deer and attempted a selfie

I put my bike on its stand, walked over and asked "Would you like me to take your photo?"

He answered "Yes"

He gave me his phone and I took a few photos

He held out his hand and a deer came to look

A stag looked up

Really made the picture

After returning his phone I commented "it's beautiful isn't it"

I walked away back to my bike

A young couple were dressed beautifully in traditional outfits

Their friends took photos of them

I found the scene touching and a tear came to my eye

I left and cycled really fast for a while

My contribution to Valentine's Day 2023

Recipe

Coconut milk 150g (preferably thick like paste, the tin said coconut extract 90%)
Bananas x2 (not the massive ones, maybe one of those)
Blueberries 50g
Chocolate 50g

1. Blend the coconut milk, bananas and blueberries
2. Melt the chocolate (low heat microwave 2-3 mins)
3. Pour the chocolate on top

Less a smoothie, more like a room-temperature-ice-cream to be eaten with a spoon, on your favourite chair, with the lights down low and soft sexy music playing.

Warning: Divergence from the above recipe will only result in more of the same. Do not eat near a naked flame. Do not use a potato peeler. Do not eat in excessive temperatures. Do not eat while standing on your head, unless this is something you are proficient at. Bananas must be peeled in accordance with the BP-ISO-88783-12 standard, or any other way as long you accept responsibility for any mishaps. Your favourite chair must be your favourite chair otherwise it's not your favourite chair and comfort cannot be maximised.

I started this track with a very clear idea of what I was going to do. However my mobile had other ideas and decided not to share the recording I wanted to use.

And now I'm glad my mobile played up because I found another recording I made of my Mom reading a bedtime story for my children Isla, Linnea and Gideon. Gideon sings, Linnea says the main repeated sample, and Isla makes the amused sound in response to cuddling up in bed.

I have to admit making the recording secretly and only later asking for permission. Thankfully my Mom has forgiven me, likes the recordings and I can keep the track here :)

The French synthwave inspiration came from two sources. The most recent being the Euros 2016, where an advert starting with a toot-toot, that I have untiringly watched many many times, itself seemed inspired by French synthwave. 

Secondly a selection of tracks from an album called BIPPP French Synthwave 1979-85, http://www.bornbadrecords.net/releases/bippp-french-synth-wave-79-85/. The ones I liked were 5*, 7, 8, 9*, 10*, 11. The starred ones especially so. Thanks to Jamie Farrell for sending this album my way some time ago.

Lunch
1. Toast two slices of bread
2. Spread orange marmalade
3. Cover with slices of cheddar cheese
4. Pour spicey honey and ginger salad dressing (mine was called Hummus Dressing, Honey and Ginger, with crushed chickpeas)
5. Add the diced flesh of a half centimetre slice of lemon, removing the edge
6. Add two or three diced sun-dried tomatoes
7. Cover with sliced pickled beetroot
