We're back for our April 2021 session with our first show since Groove City Radio began broadcasting live throughout Glasgow on 88.6FM
To celebrate, we've got 2 special guests.

For the first hour we've got Dubrovnik (UK) with his deep and dubby trademark sound.

Dubrovnik (UK) is a subSine resident and a past student of the subSine Academy.

He has recently put together some guest mixes for the Recorder Series and more recently Greyscale, the label where he also released his Planetary Soul EP last year.

We'll be hearing from Dubrovnik (UK) telling us a bit about his mix, and what he has been working on in the studio lately.

Up on hour 2 our guest is a serial producer of quality techno, and one of the leading figures in the Icelandic contemporary techno scene - Ohm.

Having released records on many quality labels such as Thule, AE Recordings, Taped Artefact, Solid Groove, Kontakt Records and more recently on his very own OHM Series, we're looking forward to a deep journey through electronics!

Following on from where Crookers’ white label CRKRS 001 12” left off, this digital release explores the parameters of one of the tracks featured on that vinyl, ‘Innocent’ featuring Baxter’s sunshine vocals. Always on point with his productions but never one to take either a deadly serious or a formulaic approach, Crookers’ alternate versions give ‘Innocent’ distinctly different flavours. He re-invents the track totally for the ‘More Than A Dub’, inserting an industrial beat and manipulating the vocal into an occasional wedge.  Two re-works are provided by Kai Alcé, an artist who draws his influences from three of America’s most musically rich regions; New York, Detroit and Atlanta. Kai’s DISTINCTIVE Groove Dub goes in hard with the beat but is softened with shuddering synths and Baxter’s voice souped up with plenty of reverb. The DISTINCTIVE Retouch appeals more to a club setting, echoing the original’s pacey, party vibe.

Under The Gun V was mixed by A²’s Alec Stone in dedication to his friend and other half of the production duo, Andy Panayi, who sadly passed away a few months ago. We’d never met the guys but have long been big fans of their music and they were due to play our party back in May, which didn’t go ahead for obvious reasons. We were really looking forward to rearranging the gig post-Covid when we heard the news. A big thank you to Rob for arranging this, and Alec for putting together a very special podcast. Our thoughts are with Andy’s friends and family. Merry Christmas x

DJ Spectrum

Originally hailing from London's East End, DJ Spectrum's collision with forward thinking music happened back in the early 80's. Exposed to the original pioneering sounds of electro & Hip-Hop from artists like Tangerine Dream, Front 242 & Afrika, Bambaataa Grandmaster Flash, Man Parrish, DJ Spectrum soon acquired a taste for quality avant-garde music.

In the mid 80's Spectrum's Anglo-French heritage made him eligible for National Service in France, and so began his steady importation of English music culture to the French Riviera, organising some of the earliest 'Raves' and 'Warehouse parties' in the country. 

In 1991 he joined forces with some of London's hottest underground organisers and changed the face of clubbing on Frances south coast for good by importing DJ's and equipment the likes of which had never been seen there before. 

For the first of his infamous 'Power-House' parties DJ Spectrum shrewdly chose to teamed up with young London DJ/Producer 'Tom Parris'. Once again this collaboration was to spark a revolution in the area and lead to some of the most innovating events the country has ever seen. 

Together Spectrum & Parris were to introduce some of the Uk's finest DJ's to France. Mr. C, Layo & Bushwacka, Nathan Coles, Murf, Baby Ford and even current Fabric resident Terry Francis all made guest appearances for the duo long before they became house hold names in the Hexagonal.
DJ Spectrum isn't just a Disc-Jockey. He was also one of the key investors in legendary London Super-Club The End http://www.endclub.com/ , and also the label boss of 'Cydonia Records'. Today DJ Spectrum holds down regular residencies on the Riviera and beyond, and has built up a following for his Deep-House mixes on Sound Cloud that would put many higher profile DJ's to shame. He also has a resident slot on Cocoon FM Radio along side Colin Dale, Tom Parris, Trevor Rockcliffe and Billy Nasty.
