Digging graves for the dead that we love
Like putting a baby to bed
The cathartic nature of shoveling 6 feet of soil 
As we dig deep into our grief
But we don't deal with our own dead anymore
Let alone grow our own food
Or raise our own children
Let someone else take the responsibility
For your human experience
It's no wonder we merge with machines 
At such ease
Most of us have already left our bodies
Nothing more than mental microchips
Operating an outdated system
Of flesh and blood
Flesh that you fail to feel
Blood causing through you 
Beating with life
But you fail to feel that pulse 
that pulse you used to keep in time
In time with the seasons
In time with the stars
We've forgotten the galactic markers 
Marking a safe course home
I'm down with the planet
But I ain't down with this society
Mother Earth knows how to rock it
But we've forgotten our roots
In exchange for a shallow
Facade of a reality
One that keeps us from ever evolving beyond our selves
You don't even see past your own phone
Except to look at the telly
Staring at two screens
While the one life you have passes you by
We destroy ourselves at the same rate we destroy this Earth
You'd think it was crazy 
If we boarded a plane
And I started dismantling the wings mid flight
But we do just that 
To this spaceship
That we call a planet
Mid flight
In the expanse of the universe
Going ever further
Beyond our own existance
But never 
beyond our own ignorance

I just need to put pen to paper

I know we're meant to be saving trees 
but I just can't connect with the keypad 
I just need to put pen to paper

I can't be doing 
with any old cheap biro 
Cos I lose my shit 
when the words flowing out of me get stopped by the pen leaving scratches and my rage upon the page 
and I won't use  
blue ink
I know 
I know it's extreme 
but I just find 
that black ink 
leaves the truest mark 
on white paper
I write so much 
I write so much for someone who left school 
with nothing more than a D 
in English GCSE 
the formal institution of education was never a place for me 
it never connected to my mind 
let alone my heart and soul 
I just needed to put pen to paper 
pen to paper 
pouring out my spirit 
in its wild beauty 
not rote learning 
some dead facts 
off a teacher 
who never had wisdom to teach
I need a home
Because paper 
doesn't give me much of a roof to live under
I write on the walls
As they crumble about me
Letting all of nature in
Writing over the trails 
That slugs have left behind 
As if they were lines
I could have better 
but I quit my job 
I'd serve customers 
only to print receipts to write on them 
I'd stack cans of beans on shelves only to leave poetry on the labels because I just needed to put pen to paper 
pen to paper
I want a lover
But I've got ink stained sheets
And my bed is filled with books and reams of paper
I stay up late
Just to caress words upon page
When dawn comes
I wake up with pens in my hair
Pens in my hair
I know it makes me look mad
In fact I can be straight out neurotic
Because the nuerons inside my brain 
fire about
Into some sort of creative energy
Which means 
I just have to put pen to paper
Pen to paper
If I don't let this out
I'll implode 
and go truly insane
I don't know what to do
Except 
put pen to paper
Pen to paper 
And read it out 
to you.
