It's so easy to get caught up in the pain of things that have happened. We spend so much time in survival mode that we can miss when happier times arrive. Yes, the song is a metaphor but if you enjoy it in a more literal way, that's great too!

IN THE ARMS OF GOD

Vocal, classical guitar, keyboard: David Gersten. "Rain and Tears" was inspired by the poetry of Robin Easton, poet and author of  "Naked in Eden: Healing and Transformation in the Australian Rainforest." As I read one of her poems on Facebook, I was quite moved and the music started to flow. I tried to make this song as true to Robin's life and journey as possible. About 90% of the words are hers, which I shuffled around, re-worked them, and moved the poetry form into song form. I'll share the lyrics here:

I throw the covers back and rise from bed
Sometimes your agony just fills my head
Barefoot I tiptoe through moonbeams on the floor
I turn the handle and open up the door

Still as a statue I stand and wait
I hear your hopeful calls from far away
Clouds drift past the moon and stars
I pray for you no matter where you are

I hear your cries …In my midnight tired mind
Raindrops wait for me…Tears are running free
I stand alone…With the grace of rain and tears
I am at home…As I taste the rain and tears

The wind joins in tugging at my clothes
My hair is wet, and I’ve got muddy toes
Coyotes howl their ancient song
Here I stand where I belong

Melody:  Melody is from "What a Wonderful World," made famous by Louis Armstrong. Melody writers: Bob Thiele (as "George Douglas") and George David Weiss.
Piano and Drums: Kirk Arnold.
The lyrics were written July 4, 2020 as a heartfelt expression of the confusion and frustration millions are dealing with. Louis Armstrong was asked how he could write such a cheerful song when there is so much pain, suffering, and hunger in the world. Armstrong replied, "The real meaning of the song is...What a wonderful world it would be....if we did the things we need to." Enjoy.

When Will Dreams Come True

CAROLINA IN MY MIND

Instrumental: Karaoke Version
James Taylor wrote and recorded this song in 1968 while staying in an apartment in London. Taylor had just signed a recording contract with Apple Records. He skipped from London to the island of Formentera. Although he was hanging out with the Beatles on the island, he was feeling quite lonely and alone, and his thoughts led him back to his childhood home, Carolina. He met Karin on Formentera Island, but did not reveal her identity until 2009. She was Scandinavian, about twenty-four years old, and had shoulder length blonde hair. This was probably a fleeting relationship, or even simply a meeting. He never saw her again. 35 years later, and with the advent of the Internet, Taylor located a police artist and commissioned him to draw a sketch of what she would look like after all this time. The artist e-mailed him a most unflattering sketch the next day as a joke.
