If people in Belgium ask me what kind of music I am mostly into for the moment, the answer is mushroom jazz. Generally their response is, they never heard of it. But the name itself arouses curiosity...

Happy 2025 to all the Idlers out there! We're back with our first mix missive of the year - and it's a doozy. When it comes to edit records, so much has already been done. These London-based boys decided to ditch the well-trod paths of Disco, Boogie & Soul to dive headfirst into the devil's maw that is American Rock & Country music, making some of the best we’d heard in awhile, subtly turning some of the stodgiest 60's & 70's shitkicker jams into glorious glitterball anthems. The fact that they're kickass DJ's to boot made this decision a no-brainer! Ladies & germs, please welcome to the Idle Cellars Mix Series stable - Flying Mojito Bros! These two fine gents were extremely gracious - if not eager! - to tackle the Idle Cellars brief and we all have hit the jackpot. Presenting "Americana Pacifica" - we would call it Balearica re-imagined through the lens of US AOR, soft rock, country and more. Accompanying the mix is this message from FMB:

Rugged, saline guitar jams and sea-smoothed rock – from really recent finds to long-cherished shoreline treasures once popped in our pockets for another day, another day. In Hour 2 we welcome Khruangbin , the Texan trio who take influence from 1960's Thai funk (their name literally translates to "Engine Fly" in Thai ) and include Laura Lee on bass, Mark Speer on guitar, and Donald “DJ” Johnson on drums. Their debut album from 2015 ‘The Universe Smiles Upon You’ is steeped in the bass heavy, psychedelic sound of their inspirations and was recorded at their spiritual home, a remote barn deep in the Texas countryside. The band listened to a lot of different types of music on the long drives out to the country but their favorites were 60s and 70s Thai cassettes gleaned from the cult Monrakplengthai blog and compilations of southeast Asian pop, rock and funk. Their mix is a sublime selection of music that includes Arthur Verocai, Return to Forever, Serge Gainsbourg, Miles Davis and some incredibly rare records from Christy Azuma, Ahmed Fakroun and Theodora Ifudu. You can catch them playing alongside Kendrick Lamar, Jamie XX and Kamasi Washington in Hyde Park, London on 2nd July, their US Tour kicks off in September and they have a remix release coming out in early June.
