The Stray Amigos (disquiet0525)

This week's junto is to record th efirst part of a trio - which others can add to over the next two weeks.  

I love these ones :-)  The challenge is always in leaving space - I'm not very good at that generally!

For my part, I created a 15-note long sequence, that has it's start point changed every now and again to shorten it, and also has triggers that are changed occasionally, and random notes added in varying amounts at different times, to add interest and movement. This sequence is played on Rings with a plucked guitar-like tone, that has reverb and echoes added for more movement.

Magic Number (1 Of 3) Disquiet0525

An ambient snippet. G Major, 49 BPM. Envisioned as one of a trio - perhaps three loops playing off each other.

A small selection of an attempt at a Basinski-style "Disintegration Loop" on the Digitakt. Sampled myself playing a small section of Holst's "Jupiter", and then chopped that into phrases on the Digitakt. I changed the probability that each phrase would trigger as I went further into the piece, and changed various effect parameters as well.

Disquiet Junto Project 0525: Magic Number (1 of 3)
The Assignment: Record the first third of a trio.

Step 1: This week’s Junto project is the first in a sequence intended to invite, encourage, and reward collaboration. You will be recording something with the understanding that it will remain unfinished for the time being. Your part will be done, but more will happen. Read on.

Step 2: The plan is for you to record a short and original piece of music, on any instrumentation of your choice. Conceive it as something that leaves room for something else — other instruments, other people — to join in.

Step 3: Record a short piece of music, roughly two to three minutes in length, as described in Step 2. When done, if possible, pan the audio so that your piece is solely in the left side of the stereo spectrum.

Step 4: Also, and this is important, be sure, when done, to make your track downloadable, because it will be used by someone else in the next Disquiet Junto project.

Created in Bitwig, samples and effects – mostly a drum part for adding to. This was originally done to work against Norns based drones but I pared these right back with just a few bleeps using an Euclidian gate sequencer plug in.

With Liquid Hats(110bpm) [disquiet0525]

This week's prompt is to create the first part in a trio. The obvious strategy here is to keep it sparse to make room for other people. I've begun taking baritone horn lessons again and am really into the idea of incorporating the horn into an electronics set up. This drone is just just me going up and down a sequence of fifths using a couple of Live Racks I'm experimenting with that incorporate the envelope follower. One FX chain keeps the Echo feedback at 101%, dropping below 100% only when the Envelope Follower detects a new incoming note from the horn. Another FX chain speeds up the panning whenever there's a new note. 

I've got some dubious intonation, but I'm going to call it unconventional timbre and go with it!

The second half of the drone is a reversed version of the first half.
