Bought a new guitar. Semi-acoustic, so no more recording through a noisy microphone.

Summer

The result of about 14 straight hours of work. Considering how complex this song is, I'm really pleased with the way it turned out. Recording guitar is 1,000,000 times easier now, and I think it shows in the quality as well.

When I feel like I need to boost my skills a bit (which is all the time), I like to do what I call a 'study' of a song that incorporates the things I'm trying to work on. A study differs from a cover in the sense that I'm trying to make it sound as close to the original as possible, rather than put my own spin on it. The purpose of this is that it often forces me to do things that I wouldn't normally do or think of doing, and stops me from falling into the same patterns and techniques that I always use. The purpose of studying Spanish Sahara was to help build my skills in keeping time, song structure, and song density. It also forced me to use my plug ins in ways that I hadn't considered before so that I could get it to sound just right.
This is so far the most complex song I've studied.
