2015 saw Damian Lazarus create his most ambitious project to date in The Ancient Moons, producing a full length album ‘Message From The Other Side’ with a wide assortment of vocalists and collaborators from around the world. They went on to support Roisin Murphy on tour, gain acclaim from the likes of Dazed & Confused and Lazarus became the final coverstar of the year in the UK”s Mixmag magazine.

Now the tracks from ‘The Other Side’ have been reinterpreted by an assortment of stars, from techno stalwarts Juan Atkins & Kimyon Huggins, to German experimental talent Kölsch, and Acid Pauli’s sprawling fusion of weirdness. The original material is ploughed in new and surprising directions by Black Butter’s own Gorgon City and Mehmet Asian, resident at Berlin’s infamous Wilde Renate club.

Talent from Lazarus’ label Crosstown Rebels, including Francesca Lombardo, DrumTalk and Israeli trio Red Axes also produce their own visions for the music, all of which retain the mysticism of the original with added dancefloor appeal. The final four tracks revisit some of the biggest moments from the Moons to date, as the album revisits interpretations from Jamie Jones, Dixon, Serge Devant and &Me.

Co-produced by James Ford (Simian Mobile Disco, Arctic Monkeys, Florence & The Machine), The Ancient Moons was always a unique project, which has now been stretched to include the flavours of some of the most exciting artists shaping the musical landscape right now.

Recorded in Mexico, LA and London, ‘The Other Side’ features instrumentalists from Mozambique, Guinea, Pakistan, Egypt, America and even Mexico’s own Yucatan Symphony Orchestra.

It seems like the Italians are well and truly taking over here at
Freerange these days. Following hot on the heels of releases from Stefano Ritteri and Bugsy we now present you with a brilliant three tracker from Rome-based producer Whitesquare. Known for previous releases on 2020 Vision and Toy Tonics Whitesquare has switched up his sound a little to delve deeper into the world of Afro-inspired electronic house which fits perfectly on Freerange and should appeal to fans of Hyenah, Rancido andthe Keinemusik crew.

Title track Traces To Nowhere sets the tone, taking it’s roots from the
precision sonics and reduced approach of Berlin minimalism but infused
with a warm, organic sound palette, resulting in a deep and atmospheric
track which is powerful yet understated. Flipping over we have Understand, another hypnotic mood-setter which utilises a repeating vocal, percussion fills and a killer sub bass to create a track which places all the emphasis on the paired-back groove andsubtle detail.

Rounding off the EP we have Suivre, a conga-heavy drum tool which mashes up live jazz drumming with a driving kick and echoing vocal to great effect. The sense of space makes this one a winner for changing things up in the mix and sounds fearsome on a big system. Three lovingly crafted tracks which bridge the gap between Berlin and Johannesburg, bringing a fresh yet appealing sound to please dance floors worldwide.

Coming at you with his very first release on Hive Audio is SOAME, a Zurich-based producer who has been picking up traction releasewise in the past three or four years despite being a veteran in the Swiss party scene in which he's been actively involved in for way more than a decade. For his label debut we see SOAME teaming up with British vocalist Jinadu, a creative force who's been working alongside masters like Kirk DiGiorgio, Jimpster, Fred Everything and many others in the past.

Their original version of „Sun“ is an immaculate amalgamation of deep, athmospheric, yet sparse TechHouse and captivating, soulful and touching, partly even longing vocals, predestined to stand out as unquestioned highlight in every groove-bound DJ set for now and an ongoing eternity being an instant classic that is about to stand the test of time.

On remix duties for „Sun“ is Dario D'Attis, a longtime friend and staple within the Hive Audio roster. His take on the original keeps track of the deep, soulful vibe whilst, adds a new rolling bassline motif and a swinging, hyper-seductive groove that provides a little more of a pump for buzzing dancefloors and crowds already floating a few inches above the ground.

Finally SOAME delivers his own personal re-lick of „Sun“ with his so-called 'Gypsy Mix'. Taking on another angle we see the track being transferred into a new, still deep, yet partly even balearic context, bringing on panoramic arrangements touched by big time melancholia and the beauty of a sinking sun turning into a fireball whilst touching the endless horizon and the calm swell inherent to big ocean waters.

'For our 37th Chapter, we warmly welcome Italian artist Andy Bros to the label with the 'Cuore' EP.

The package sees the Diynamic regular present his fresh and innovative sound on an EP that bridges the tech and deep dance realms with the worlds of jazz, funk and soul.

Title track 'Cuore' is a showstopper. Full of drive, tenderness and ultimately optimism, the piece tells a very personal story for the artist and affirms the power of keeping an open heart. 

Next, 'Rocky' offers something darker and deeper - an ode to a hero from the artist's youth. Huge, dramatic synth riffs are the order of the day, full of panache and flair.

Meanwhile, closer 'Sunny Day' is another stellar number, richly laden with choppy piano riffs on a bouncy tech groove. Once more, there remains a sense of positivity that all will be well in the end.

With three powerful original cuts, Andy Bros proves again that he is an eclectic and rounded artist with a tale to tell. Not afraid of experimenting and pushing things forward, he is a perfect fit for Chapter 24.'

@crosstownrebels welcome Tochno Techno label owner @yulianikomusic to release her first full EP, ​Paradise, ​a captivating three track EP featuring jazz bossanova vocalist @silromero and Italian talent @cioz on remix duty. The aptly named ​Es Vedra c​ an be heard as a digital bonus track.

Opening track ​"Caminando" e​ncapsulates Yulia’s inspiration from walking on the White Isle of Ibiza where she spent the last year living. The hypnotising deep house melody of swirly synth pads and Sil Romero’s beautiful dreamy vocals wash over skipping percussion in an emotive composition. Niko described how the track came together - “​I sent demos to my friend and great jazz Bossanova singer Sil Romero and told her about my emotions after Ibiza. She also loves the island and goes there every year. The words "Caminado" are from Spanish - walking around, and she says ”I feel good​!”. Cioz ​puts his own melodic stamp on the remix, creating a progressive club piece with bright keys over a reshaped bass line.

Crossing  borders  is  a  familiar  experience  to  David  Mayer.  Though  being  born  in  south  Germany,  he  spent  most  of  his  youth  living  in  Norway  and  (for  a  change)  in  Lanzarote,  before Berlin  happened  to  become  his  home  in  2004.  With  key-releases  on  Connected,  Ouïe, Objektivity, Mobilee and  Keinemusik  alongside  remixes  on  Kompakt,  Get  Physical,  Offering  Recordings  and  Rise Music  Berlin  he  has  forged  a  reputation  as  a  producer  and  touring  DJ.

As  he  prefers  thinking  outside  the  box,  Mayer  has  always  been  equally  interested  in  listening  to  and  experimenting  with  diverse  forms  of  music,  no  matter  what  musical  genre  they derive  from,  although  his  passion  for  funked  up  and  heavily  pounding  4/4  beats  clearly dominates  his  creative  output.  Early  tracks  like  “Fortune”,  “Word  Is  Bond”,  “Celsius”  and “Sunhole”  just  as  the  more  recent  „Drained“  featuring  Sooma,  „Movement“,  „Sirocco“  and his  several  remixes  are  characterised  by  an  intriguing  knack  for  detail  and  precise  sound design.  Both  when  spinning  records  and  producing  tracks,  he  is  presenting  his  own  interpretation  of  catchiness,  mixing  up  Techno  and  percussive  House,  adding  a  little  deepness, but  always  keeping  an  eye  on  making  his  audience  shake  some.

Only  leaving  his  desk  in  order  to  indulge  some  serious  clubbing,  this  guy  knows  about  priorities.  With  a  solid  and  continuous  stream  of  output  under  his  belt,  it  is  always  of  interest  what  David  Mayer  is  up  for  next.
