Bedrock keeps up the creative techno pressure with a stunning double-header from Harvey McKay, who has emerged from Glasgow’s underground clubbing scene to become one of the hottest new prospects around with his distinctive driving, energetic, soulful style that makes his tracks so unique.

Having already provided a highlight for Bedrock’s Underground Sound Of Miami Series 3 album (the huge “Phone Freaker”), and collaborated with Carlo Lio on the highly popular “Droid Decay” (Beddigi40), Harvey McKay returns to round-off 2014 in style with “Amen” and “Cry Wolf”.

The perfection with which he blends a raw, pounding groove with a simple, soulful vocal hook is mark of a man pure creative talent. Subtle house-influenced flourishes take the whole production process up a level, giving the track a spacious sound with character and depth that few can equal. “Cry Wolf” takes this creative blueprint in a heavier, hypnotic, and equally distinctive direction. 

It’s no wonder that Harvey McKay regularly tops the Beatport Techno Charts. Apart from his exceptional tracks on Bedrock, he has released standout gems on Drumcode, Cocoon and Soma, along with a string of monster remixes. With a talent like this rising on the global stage the future of techno certainly looks very exciting indeed!

You can spot Jimmy Edgar's homegrown imprint from twenty paces -- someone at BR HQ genuinely peered at my screen and said, “bit of Ultramajic, eh?” while I was typing this. The warped club constructions falling off the label’s assembly line take many forms, but often serve as an aural reflection of that typically eye-popping artwork: synthetic, pneumatic, and kinda sleazy.

Chambray’s “Rub” flew the freak flag high all through the summer. Now, as a bonus on his Rub Remixes, we have a remix of deep cut “Untitled” by none other than Len Faki. The longstanding techno don remoulds the track into the kind of functional, weaponised tool that laid our Berlin space to waste back in April.

Swift Podcast 023 with G.Pal

Nicola Calbi teams up with Luky for their debut outing on Say What? and &#8220;La Fable&#8221; emanates a cavernous vibe, while the sly bassline provides the necessary drive and warmth. As the shuffling groove unfolds, lush chord pads intertwine with melodic leads for sublime results. &#8220;Lagoon&#8221; continues in the same vein, with haunting melodies taking center stage and rumbling bass keeping everything in check, as we are treated to a more commanding and epic feel. The Basti Grub remix toughens things up a bit, keeping the melodic elements intact while adding a crackling rhythm section.

Another ride through psychotic territory courtesy of our Serbian brother TKNO is the order of the day. With persistent riffing taking control and cavernous effects engulfing all unsuspecting victims, the die has been cast in favor of doom and lord TKNO is at the helm.

The duo is back on Pornographic and kick things off with the intense drum workout which is &#8220;Freemium&#8221;, steamrolling all the way to the top, alongside haunting vocal snippets. &#8220;Hot Cocoa&#8221; opts for a slightly different route and introduces soaring synth stabs and hypnotic electronics, as it constantly evolves to an apocalyptic breakdown. The EP&#8217;s closer, &#8220;Take Me Home&#8221; serves as a combination of the two previous tracks, where growling synthesis goes hand-in-hand with tribal sensibilities and cheeky sampling.

The apocalyptic, arpeggiated breakdown acts like the extra icing on the cake. &#8220;Optimus&#8221; is up next and holds the cavernous vibe down with heavy use of droned-out synths, grinding hats and eclectic sonic manipulation.

Umberto returns to Deeperfect with three synth-heavy tracks, and &#8220;Silent Dream&#8221; opens up with a warped melody that expands to epic proportions as the old-school drumset provides the momentum. On &#8220;Kollab&#8221; the rhythm section grinds away effortlessly as we we are treated to a futuristic vibe, thanks to the manic arpeggios which dominate the affair. &#8220;Road System&#8221; sounds a bit more stripped-down because of its straightforward groove, however the arpeggiated synths are here once again and snare edits keep the suspense levels high at all times.

Every one of us has secrets. Secrets that we keep from others, and sometimes secrets that we keep even from ourselves. When we choose to reveal those secrets, there are many ways through which we express them and let the world in on them. For Russian producer Alexander Picon, music is his preferred way to express them. It's up to Reaktivate to provide the platform, this time. For A. Picon, there's already a Russian/Portuguese/Iberian connection, after previous releases on A. Paul/Loudon Kleer's Parallel 125 and Joton's Newrhythmic, which keeps going on Reaktivate's 17th release.

A. Picon's Secret reveals itself slowly but surely and forcefully, with an engaging and mysterious track built upon solid kicks, a hypnotic bassline and the muffled sound of otherworldly voices struggling to be heard and reveal themselves. An excellent mood-setter for DJs who have stories to tell through their sets. 

From Scotland, Reaktivate is extremely proud to present a name who is undeniably on the rise, Deepbass. The Informa Records label boss is accomplished producer and DJ with releases on labels like Aconito, Mono and Dynamic Reflection which have helped establish a definite "Deepbass touch" perfectly defined by his own chosen moniker, a distinctive brand of enveloping, absorbing deep grooves who are as effective at engaging the mind as at making bodies move. Those characteristics are fully present in his remix, which his undeniably suited for those lost-in-it moments on the dancefloor. 

A. Picon's Secret keeps unfurling with Jonsson Toll's remix, An extremely promising talent from Portugal, at only 17 years of age, he keeps intact the steady pace of the original while adding a deep ambient techno touch to the track, while not losing the opportunity to mess with our heads a bit more with offbeat kicks and rimshots that take the original to even more subterranean depths. 

Finally, from Italy and already bearing a CV comprising releases on CRS Records and Sonntag Morgen, amongst others, Untold Concept gives us a remix which rounds the package perfectly. If a Secret is as much about what is said as about what is left Untold, then this remix sheds a brighter light on the original, while retaining it's a mystery, with a melodic and 90s ambient touch on top an assured syncopated beat, revealing the beauty in the darkness so forth displayed.
