Impromptu

One of my favourites!   Quite fast, with a faster middle section serving as a Trio.

Scherzo

The first Nocturne is mostly in 5/4 time, but with brief episodes in  6/4 and 4/4.  The second Nocturne is in 9/8 time; it is in tertiary form ABA.

Composed in response to the Iraq War of 2003.  Revised version 2019.  There are three movements: Allegro, Larghetto, Allegretto.

Sonatina in E minor

I compose mainly for the piano, but there is also some chamber music.  Some of my work is baroque, some classical, but I’m also interested in more modern styles, and some of my pieces are in Modes of Limited Transposition. 

Note that the files I have posted on Soundcloud are computer generated; it is not me playing the piano!  This has the advantage that they are note perfect, and the files are easy to produce. But they would sound much better on a real piano. There are some examples on my website www.musicforinsomniacs.com
