Rip the blanket from your grasp,
Tear yourself out of the past, and go.

How long will it be, till we're alone? 
You know there are places I must show you.

Come warm your weary feet next to the heat 
We'll sit and wait for this to blow through.

And you don't say a word.
You just make your way outside
And move on with your life.

You turn and trace the path you made
And pray its harsh imprint will fade,
With each ascending hairpin bend 
You're pulling taut the last loose ends.
Wild thoughts long left to percolate
Are allowed to see the light of day at last.

BE LIKE WATER 
A cycle for solo piano

Be Like Water loosely follows the water cycle through its journey, meditating on its role in transferring energy around the world, its multi-faceted beauty, and its increasing volatility.

I began creating these pieces while isolated by the river in Stratford-upon-Avon in Spring 2020, and though the world seemed to have ground to a halt, the water never ceased to shape the days and flow past on its epic journey. This music aims to capture some of that mystery in a musical response to the water cycle.

Mem-orphosis investigates the neuroscience of the human memory.

Single from my improvised piano album: 'The Key Crack Chronicles'.

The Key Crack Chronicles started in 2016 after a major commission from the Norfolk and Norwich Festival. I'd just finished a massive piece for Orchestra, choir and 3 soloists and I was TIRED. Immediately, I stripped things down, went to the piano, and began recording improvisations since. I now have about 700 of these recordings, and this album takes inspiration from the sonority of those many, many tracks. This album is a reverberation of those years spent alone in my studio. An echo of years of improvised playing. The album takes its' name from the wear and tear of my piano over the years. The keys are cracked, the strings all loose and the stool is sinking. This was not a gentle experience.

Keep an eye out for the album tour. The shows will be improvised, like the Key-Crack days.
