The next instalment of my Golden Era Podcast series is here, Including an interview with Legendary British Funk act Cymande. These are Funk tracks from the 60's - 70's which are my personal favourites and inspired me to do what I do today. Funk is a style, genre a way of life that has been the biggest influence in my career. In this mix it takes in everything that I love about how Funk can be Latin, Jazz, Folk, Rock but if it's Funky then it can fit under that bracket !!

 I want to dedicate this mix to Miracle Washington. Miracle was a friend, supporter and incredible person who always brought a positive energy to any interaction she was a part of. You will be missed greatly Miracle. Much Love to you, Rest in Peace. 

  My summer mixes are mixes that include tons of soulful tunes that I love. I love a wide range of music, so there's soul, funk, hip hop, house and disco in here :) A lot of these songs are favorites of mine because of their positive message and ultimately, their healing qualities. In this uncertain time in my country I am more than happy to speak out about injustices and seek to better my own community. However, sometimes, we need songs to take us on a spiritual journey so that we can remember that though there is evil in the world, it does not have to define us. In a spiritual sense, we can live without that which we're opposed to defining our being; we can be free there. 

   Some of the songs in this mix speak about current realities (even though they were made 40 years ago)and some seek to deliver a message of higher understanding of our life here on earth. I'll leave you with Lonnie LIston Smith's line from the last song in this mix, Expansions:
 "Expand your mind, to understand, we all must live in peace."

Dark, triumphant and mysterious; the new Menahan Street band 45 single "Light's Out" conjures images of hard-fighting pugilists battling it out under a bare bulb, of a matador's graceful execution of a lumbering bull, of sweat, romance and victory.  Brought in by a rollicking, almost tipsy, Hammond melody and backed by a smoky smooth guitar line, “Keep Coming Back” eventually erupts into a swanky nightlife anthem, complete with red velvet curtains and a garnished highball.
