PREMIERE: Blake Leisurely - I Think I’m Okay [Miura Records]

Italian producer Ruff Stuff - which has already released on labels like !K7, Shall Not Fade, Sloth Boogie, Madhouse - returns with a self produced record on his Ruff Stuff Music label.

The EP is a solid mixture of tracks showcasing 2 sides of the producer's sound: the more dancefloor oriented one on the A Side vs the deeper and housier one on the B side.

Each of the tracks expresses in its unique way Ruff's own style and inspiration: the A side is composed by DJ tools, with 'High Club Alive' inspired by French Touch and the deeper 'Badass Groove’.

On the B side you will find more complex arrangements, more brainy tunes, with a definite House and Acid vibe.

This is a truly masterful combination of tunes by Ruff Stuff.

For Maeve’s eighth outing it has enlisted the talents of long time friend Ed Davenport. The record grew from a chance hearing of some new material at Ed’s studio one night and after a brief discussion it was decided that the tracks would find a fitting home at Maeve. 

Although recently more known for his harder techno releases under the moniker Inland, Silver Walks is some what a return to Ed’s roots. Slower, emotive, more contemplative tracks, recorded over a pretty short period of focused studio time.

'Silver Walks' is a synth-led jam. The arpeggiator holds pride of place as the centre of the tune with filter tweaks complementing its progression. 'Kuromaku' has a tougher attitude - heady and cosmic with a deep kick. It means 'black curtain' in Japanese.

A strong contender for dance record of the year, Red Rack’em’s gloriously wonky disco banger was re-released on Classic earlier in 2016. It’s that track that anyone who’s anyone has been bugging us for. After a few months embedding itself into people’s psyches, it returns with two huge new mixes.

First up is the marvellously talented KiNK who is no stranger to Classic, having made a stamp on the label many years ago with his remix of 3rd Face’s ‘Canto Della Liberta’. KiNK has since gone from strength to strength with his productions, accompanied by his extraordinary live performance. He goes in head first with this remix, using some proper techno Wonk and a bass that will make your heart flutter. It is indeed a beast.
 
On the flip, Luke Solomon joins forces with Bristol’s very own Eats Everything and Lord Leopard, a veritable Bristol “Circle of Three”. The Leopard Eats Luke Edit adds an ounce of conformity to the drums and arrangement, without removing too much of the Wonk, taking it ever so slightly into house territory.
 
Overall this is a monstrously Wonky package.

In Spring, Scrimshire releases a huge remix project, featuring Nite Jewel, Hector Plimmer, Red Rack'Em & more. The 2nd remix to be taken from the LP is by former Brownswood Bubbler & hugely innovative multi-disciplinary artist Kayla Painter.

The producer, who is developing a reputation for her inspiring visual shows as much as her experimental audio fusions, delves deep into Madison McFerrin's heavenly vocals on I Never. Cutting together the crescendo of jazz drums with a more insistent bass and attack of kick drums, Kayla's remix is powerfully affecting while remaining perfectly understated.
