What a special moment. When I went to Building Wo-Man last year, I saw Dirtwire for the first time. The energy they created through playing their various eclectic instruments was incredible - it was fire. It was dragon energy. They transmuted darkness into light. 

This year, Building Wo-man invited me to perform on mainstage and I had an opportunity to channel my inspiration from Dirtwire - I brought my keyboard, sax, bass clarinet, and e-drumset! It was insane! 

I also brought that same intention of transmuting darkness into light. The astrological energies have been pushing us recently to confront truths that we have been ignoring. To confront shadows that we haven't wanted to see. Massive healing shifts are occurring and it has been hard. Personally, my chronic fatigue flared up and I've been struggling with my focus and energy. 

This set embodies the energy of pushing through the darkness in the support of community. Having the opportunity to channel the magic and love of this community was a true honor that I am so grateful for. Thank you!

'Tis the Midnight hour
and the bell is tolling twelve.
There are whispers in the air
as the dead begin to wake.

The wind blows, the moon groans,
Death plays a plaintive tune.
The dead, they shake their bones,
Death's a melancholy boon.

They moan, they groan, they whisper thrice,
Death's violin plays a haunting melody.
On the piano, a soul replies—
they lead the dead to stir and rise:
They dance in dreadful ecstasy!

They dance, they dip; they twist
and twirl, they rattle and roll. 
The moon, it gleams and clothes
The dead in shimmering silver light.

The clarinet sighs, the whispers fade,
low rumbles linger, faint and far.
The bell tolls again—despondent, distant.
The bones return to dusk.

Chief Get Down - Rainbow Serpent Festival 2017 Sunset Stage

The first movement describes the powerful transition I go through, journeying to another world as the emergency department doctors fight to save me. From the opening notes, my music aims to give the listener an experience of what this serene and calm other-world feels like, with the powerful crescendo of strings, brass and timpani representing the moment I become aware of the Androgynous Being of Light and feel an overwhelming sense of unconditional love emanating from its presence.

A few years ago, David Ditchfield had a freak accident in which he was dragged under a speeding train. As the surgeons fought to save him, he had a profound near-death experience (NDE) and journeyed to what he believes was the Afterlife. When he woke up in hospital, he had acquired astonishing new abilities which to this day, he still cannot explain. The first gift was an enhanced ability to paint. After his NDE, David felt compelled to produce dramatic and rich images of the things he saw in the Afterlife, paintings so vivid and real it was as though he had taken a HD camera with him to visually capture what most NDE'rs can only describe using words. Then, even more surprisingly, he started composing classical music. This new-found gift was all the more astonishing as David (a former punk/pop guitarist) has never received any training in classical music and never composed such music before his NDE. In fact, to this day, he cannot read or write a single note of musical notation. 
David's debut symphony 'The Divine Light' expresses what he felt during his NDE. The symphony was premiered at a sell-out concert and received a standing ovation from the audience. Since then, he has been commissioned to compose further classical works which have also been premiered at sell-out performances and has completed more than thirty paintings and a number of commissioned artworks
