Welcome for your campus tour around Strixhaven University!  A medley of musical themes I wrote in celebration of Strixhaven releasing later this week.  I really love the feel of the school setting and the varied flavour of each college, so I wanted to write music that would highlight those differences while still keeping them all somewhat unified as a single university.  Each college's theme is composed in different styles and highlighting different instruments within the orchestral arrangement to reflect the unique character of the college.

To celebrate the release of the official Story leading up to the release of Streets of New Capenna, I wrote an original theme for the upcoming set! The Title Track of the album not only establishes the main theme that's referenced throughout the rest of the album tracks, but also serves to set the tone and feel for the world of New Capenna!

Drawing heavily from Film Noir, classic Hollywood, and a healthy dose of The Godfather, the music I've written for this album is meant to be a sort of film soundtrack for a non-existent film set in New Capenna. My aim was to take a slightly different approach than establishing the vibe of the plane, instead looking to score it like a noir film and explore all the most iconic musical stylings of the era. Each track highlights one of the five families, with each track referencing back to the Main Theme as well as occasionally crossing motifs with other families' songs. Another school project from my electronic music class.  This is a short ambient piece about a soul approaching and entering the Gates of Diyu.

I used 12-tone serialism, heavily modified instruments, and chimes - LOTS of chimes.

Headphones are highly recommended.

The Gates Of Diyu

The Song itself is meant to represent fading memories and the sorrow and depression that comes with memory loss, especially in old age. The song focuses on this, but also suggests the hope and joy of them one day returning...

This piece was originally composed for a school class of mine, but I have since expanded and improved it and used it as a submission for a recent competition.

Retrospect - String Quartet in B Minor

This is a theme I wrote for a student short film I scored recently titled "Future Docs." I especially liked this new patch I had created and was looking for the right place to use it for the first time.  This film and it's atmosphere fit the bill perfectly.

This is the first of my Overwatch character themes, for the hero Brigitte.  To me, Brig represents everything Overwatch once stood for: heroic and adventurous, but most of all, a beacon of hope.  These were the traits I tried to emphasize most with this theme, focusing in most on her drive to protect and inspire.

Rally to Me (Brigitte Theme)

This is the second of my Overwatch character themes: Reinhardt.  Rein is brave and boisterous, strong and proud, and I wanted to capture his knightly valour with this theme, but there's more to him than that: he's also a man who's been through a lot, learned hard lessons, and is ultimately an aging man giving everything he has to make a difference in the world.  I wanted to capture both sides in the theme - the mighty and reckless, as well as the tired and at times fragile, in need of support.

Honour and Glory (Reinhardt Theme)

This was the unique challenge I gave myself when I began writing Brig and Rein's individual themes: to create a separate, distinct theme for each character, but also make it possible to play the two themes simultaneously to create a brand new theme song for the pair of them together.  So this is a theme for the team of Reinhardt and his squire Brigitte.  
I designed it so Rein's theme starts in a place of fragility and exhaustion, for his age and all the things he's been through, so to counteract that, I made the first half of Brig's theme uplifting and hopeful, 'supporting' Rein when he needs the help most.  Into the second half, Rein's simple and powerful melody is the driving force, and the two characters work in tandem as if in a victorious charge at the vanguard.

We Will be Your Shield (Brig and Rein Themes Combined!)

In honour of the Storm Rising even beginning tomorrow in Overwatch, I wanted to create a short musical theme for the hyper-cool and mysterious 'Maximilien' - having appeared only briefly prior to the storm rising event, he's a character that's peaked the curiosity of many an overwatch fan (myself included), so I wanted to set a mood and character based on what we know of him.  He has a natural suave confidence to him, is manipulative and elegant, and of course is shrouded in mystery: these were all elements I tried to incorporate into my theme for him, landing somewhere between Edith piaf's 'Il a Dit' and  'Speaking Softly Love' from the Godfather.

(All the Overwatch characters I've written themes for are absolutely property of Blizzard, and I'm just a fan that want's to celebrate some of my favourites - thx bliz!)

Name Your Price (Maximilien's Theme)

Inspired by John Williams and his incredible work on the Star Wars franchise, I've composed and arranged a version of his 'Rey's Theme,' speculating what it may sound like if Rey were to give in to the dark side.  The original theme is, of course, by the wonderful John Williams, but after studying his works and scores, this theme is my attempt to both imitate him and his style, while also trying my own hand and style writing Star Wars music. Dark Rey Theme (Original Music)

This is selection of musical themes I wrote in anticipation for the upcoming Magic: The Gathering set "Kaldheim," a Viking-inspired plane of myth and legend.  As much as I've enjoyed all the heavy metal music Wizards of the Coast has released up till now for Kaldheim, I wanted to take a more  Nordic-inspired approach to music.  This video contains themes for my three favourite realms of kaldheim: Littjara, Surtland, and Bretagard; each musical theme is meant to reflect the character of the place and peoples that reside within them.  Of course, all Kaldheim-related images, characters, etc are copyrighted by Wizards of the Coast, and the artists have been credited in the video (no artists were listed for the concept art from the Planeswalker's guides articles, but if anybody knows, feel free to leave that info in the comments below!)​

*For fellow history geeks: While Kaldheim is a fantasy setting based on Viking myth, my love of history and the early-medieval period led to research into various musical traditions of the time, from Anglo-Saxon, to Germanic, to other pagan styles and instruments in addition to the Norse/Scandinavian.  So while I wrote for fantasy and took creative liberties to do so, you'll also hear musical instruments and influences from various cultures the historical Vikings had contact with during that era (especially the Bretagard theme!).
