Come tutte le mattine ero uscito in barca a pescare quando dalla fitta nebbia vidi affacciarsi una nave enorme, un veliero. Era vecchio e si muoveva lento, si avvicinava con calma, a bordo non si vedeva nessuno, sembrava abbandonato. Chissà da dove veniva, forse dal passato trascinandosi fino ad oggi fino a diventare quel relitto. Chissà l'equipaggio che fine aveva fatto, dovevano essere in molti per governare una simile imbarcazione. Chissà quali avventure anno vissuto, quali sofferenze e quali gioie se mai ne hanno avute. Forse si trattava di un veliero pirata alla ricerca di altre imbarcazioni da depredare, o forse era un'imbarcazione di qualche avventuriero in cerca di tesori e nuove terre da scoprire. 
	Una volta avvicinatosi a me riuscii ancora a percepire la presenza dell'equipaggio come avessero lasciato un'ombra o un'essenza del loro spirito su quella nave, ma era solo un'impressione perchè la sopra non c'era nessuno, neanche un gabbiano osava posarsi su quel veliero antico e misterioso come fosse racchiuso in una bolla che lo proteggeva dall'usura e dalla furia del mare e del vento. Chissà se le anime di quegli uomini stavano riposando oppure erano ancora legate a quel relitto galleggiante, o se forse le loro avventure stavano ancora continuando nei pensieri di chi li aveva conosciuti... 
	...lentamente, come era venuto, il veliero si stava allontanado da me per rientrare in quella fittissima nebbia tipica del mattino, silenziosamente sparì dalla mia vista lasciandomi li, dove mi aveva trovato a galleggiare sui miei pensieri...

This is the 3rd tune I did for Monstro Giganto, after the intro tune and the Bogie one. I started it on 9th January and I had clear in mind how it would sound! I had fun trying to make such exotic instruments! I think I drew some inspiration from a Sega MegaDrive game. Guess which one... :)
I finished the tune on January 28th.

Monstro Giganto OST - 06 - Mojo

This was the 4th tune I did for the game. I wanted to make something "dramatic" and thrilling at the same time, and I think the intro, in a different key, served the purpose well...
Something interesting (in my opinion) in this tune is that the chords are usually on two voices, but sometimes they're just on one, but it sounds like they're still on two. This is the kind of experiments I like doing with the SID, and that's why I almost stopped using fast arpeggios...
I finished the tune on January 24th, having started it on the 13th.

Monstro Giganto OST - 05 - Eyeye

On 7th December 2023 I was approached via Messenger by Arturo Dente from “Back to the 8 bit” who was making a little Christmas demo with the entries for his "Timebox 64 - Christmas" contest, and he asked me and my brother whether we could make a tune to play during the slide show. Since I was a kid I have always liked to make a Christmas tune per year. Unfortunately, due to "life" (and especially to work), in the most recent years I didn't have the time to do it, with much regret. So I thought that this was a very good chance to renew this "tradition" of mine, and I accepted!

The tune - which is my second try (though usually the definitive version is the third try) - is very simple but catchy, and I tried to incorporate a few peculiar sounds that I associate with Christmas: bells and... zampogna! "Zampogna" is an italian instrument played especially by southern Italy's shepherds during Christmastide. They used to come even to my town when I was a kid, but I haven't seen them for years, and I really miss that sound. That's why when I decided, at the end on 2024, to release the "single" on streaming platforms, to convey this nostalgic mood in the title, but without using the word "nostalgia" and its derivates. How to do it? Well, "nostalgia" is a popular theme all over the world, even in one of my favourite countries: Japan. If you watch "nostalgic" videos you hear people say: "Natsukashii!" all the time. So I decided to title the tune: "Natsukashii KURISUMASU", where "KURISUMASU" is the japanese way to say "Christmas".

“Technically” speaking, the music is very simple, with a few and very common key changes and lots of 9 and 7+ added. Towards the end it switches to minor to symoblize the nostalgia towards the past Christmases, but it ends in major, with zampognas, meaning that anyway that feeling remains, even if we live the present, as we should always do.

Hi. It's a 6-channels song for one SID chip (6581). 
Composed in 2019 on The C64 Mini and recorded from it. 

The song is kind of a test I made to check out two things: 
- is the Polyanna tracker for C64 any good? Yes. It can play 8 channels or 6 channels on one SID chip, on a regular Commodore 64 (the old SID is required). 
- is The C64 Mini computer any good? Yes. Most of the stuff - including sound - works much better that I expected. 

As for the Polyanna tracker by Aleksi Eeben - here are a few words from the programmer: 

"
Polyanna is a 8-channel music editor for Commodore 64. It plays 3 regular SID channels together with 5 emulated SID channels on a stock machine. Old SID chip (6581) is required. The mixer is based on Sid Vicious, a SID emulator I wrote for VIC 20 in 2006. For optimal performance the emulated channels in Polyanna are optimized for pulse waveform only. Pulse width
modulation and envelopes are of course supported, although they're rough. Don't expect too much! :) There is also an optional 6-channel mode with improved sound quality:
- 8 channels: 3 regular SID + 5 emulated channels @4.4kHz
- 6 channels: 3 regular SID + 3 emulated channels @7.7kHz
"

As for The C64 Mini, I like the machine; it's good for games; it's also kind of good for making stuff: although the disk-drive speed is more/less the same like on the original C64 (You can speed it up a bit but sometimes it may cause problems with loading, so anyway I use the standard floppy speed only) - however here You have also 4 slots for snapshots, for each diskette. Instant saving / loading the song while composing is a very nice & useful feature. Really comfortable. When You finished composing - You can normally save the final song into the diskette (the *.d64 file) and move it anywhere - into an emulator, into a real diskdrive and the original C64 - and so on. 

So anyway - some more 'crunchy' sound sometimes - isn't any faulty procedure of the C64 Mini SID - Aleksi says it sounds the same way on the original C64 (and it doesn't work at all on the C64 with a new SID, we checked it out already). 
Also - it might sound even better but I made the song in a wrong way - being corrected by Aleksi too late :) - he said that it's more reasonable to use low sounds on the emulated channels and high pitch sounds on the hardware channels. Which I might figure out by myself if I only took this effort to read the instruction, haha (the "7.7kHz" fragment might give me a clue ;-) ). 

You can notice the problems with keepin' tempo too, hehe. But this sound-engine is really a killer for the Commodore, hehe. The computer does what it can. 

I dedicated this song to my Kate because she is a mathematician by penchant - and a programmer by profession, so she can appreciate how tired the 986 Hz processor is, playing this stuff (yes, I use PAL). :-P
Also, she likes 80s style of music. :-)
