‘Technician' is a percussion led rhythmic exploration, spanning 6 tracks which take in down-tempo grooves to up-beat workouts, all held together by a smooth, lucid sonic palette and arresting, unorthodox live percussive elements.

The International Feel label is a favourite of all musical persuasions. It’s carefree grooves have been supported by the likes of Gilles Peterson through to i-­D magazine. Spearheaded by Mark Barrott for the last seven years, it has both broken new artists such as Len Leise and resurrected legends such as Jose Padilla, while successfully bringing Balearic back into the world’s consciousness in the process.

The title track is an elegant wash of synths and percussion, creating an emotional texture in its rhythm and serenity in its simplicity. ‘Tago Mago’ creates more action through its dense percussion and temporal melodies, all set upon the subtle field recordings that Barrott has become infamous for. Through these he manages to create a new landscape within our own senses, using sounds of the island, his rural habitat in Ibiza is reimagined in our mind’s eye to create the ultimate utopia.

Barrott’s second album as Sketches From An Island is due for release July 2016

Caravan’s Coarsica EP is a gorgeous six-tracker of wandering drum machines and shiny synths, washed with the burnt umbers and viridescent hues of the Australian outback. Computer-funk with a green thumb. As the track-listing suggests, Coarsica is a tribute to subtle and compelling beauty of Australia’s native flora, as if Costa Georgiadis and Dâm-Funk got away from the big smoke for a weekend and spent the whole time by the river cooking this bad boy up. Like rugged and stoic Banksia, or the regal Flindersia, each track on the Coarsica EP provides a dappled shade under which the weary dancer can rest in these hot summer months.

DC Promo Tracks #351: Elegant Borzoi "Mystique"

NYC-based dancer Ronn Forella is pictured on the front cover of the On the Move album from which “Crystals” is taken. Sadly Forella passed-away in 1989. Flip the original album over and you’ll discover (if you read the finer print), that Forella may have been the man behind the moves, but he was not the man behind the music. That honor belongs to sculptor, teacher, and musician Thom Janusz. “Crystals” is loaded with drum breaks and doused with dreamy Rhodes and wah wah guitar in a dramatic and cinematic style that you could be forgiven for mistaking as long lost early Love Unlimited Orchestra.
