Five years ago and a week, I stood inside that lobby.  I stood outside and smoked the last cigarette of the first pack.  

Sitting down cross-legged outside the wheels of a charter bus.  I nestle my feet and get ready to sleep on the long ride home.  

Maybe it was a bad idea to take shots alone of ten high in the living room before I came in here.

Ten High

i could walk away if i had a million dollars, if i had a thousand dollars, i would move away
if i could get a job, i would quit being so spiteful
i am always second choice, always too polite

someone has to tell me that my apartment is filthy
my hair looks like shit and i dont shower enough
i cant just drunk all day and look at websites, i would spend all of my money and cough through cigarettes

i miss my friend more than that dead comedian, but i dont know how to say it

find me an apartment with outlets for all of us
point me to a bar or a place where i can afford to eat
im 99% sure you wont remember asking me this
have you known an atlas to be complete?

let me be your ark when the floods take manhattan again
ill be on high ground for the next 6 months living with my friend
theres still a picnic table with "fuck you" carved into it
you can drive a car, so if the roads arent packed, get into it

"get a job" they yelled in the hallways of our high schools
"get a job" they scrawled on the message boards you read
"get a job" we searched on craigslist for more roommates
"get a job" it swelled up, taking up the air
