This is the Radio Wyvern opening jingle package that I copied from the studio carts in 1982. These jingles are a custom package from Muff Murfin. They stand outside many other commercial packages in that they don't share a common station logo or theme. The tape finishes with the station's founding Technical Director, Rob Yarnold, promoting his Sunday morning show which, on the station's first listening figures, achieved the week's peak listening (at 10.30am on Sundays, if I remember correctly). Muff Murfin was not only a director of Radio Wyvern plc, but played a significant role in sharpening up the station's attitude to broadcast music. I recall playlist meetings at which he would criticise new pop records, sent by major labels for audition, because the singing was out of tune.

Radio Wyvern plc was the Independent Broadcasting Authority's programme contractor for Herefordshire and Worcestershire, and went on the air from studios in Worcester in October 1982. John Manley was its original launch MD, replaced by Norman Bilton maybe a year or so after the station began transmission. But it was Rob Yarnold who most strongly held aloft the torch for independent local radio for this region. Though he left Radio Wyvern, he later returned to radio when the competing BBC local station opened, and was part of its opening team in 1989.
