Although arxxin (said like ‘arcsine’) has only started to enter the public eye recently, her years of curating and mixing from the depths of her bedroom have prepared her to emerge into the Halifax scene ready to impress. Her tastes range from organic and progressive house, to progressive and trance, and up into techno when the night calls for it. arxxin’s sets always pride themselves in creating a journey, sometimes through reflective emotions and other times to reach the height of the dancefloor. Her love of sharing in the experience of good music with others is the motivator behind every project she takes on.

For August’s edition of Amplified, arxxin brings an exploration of progressive music, from house to trance.

Progressive & Organic House Retrospective 2023 | 2023 Yearmix, part 2 | by arxxin

Johannes Brecht returns to Diynamic with a three track EP titled „Believer".
The title track is a melancholic collaboration with singer Ben Westbeech. One-take mono-recorded drums on an original 808 create the most organic feel (you might notice the tempo slightly varying in places). The warm bass line and string and piano elements are complementing the cold realizations of Ben's words. A minimalistic arrangement that focusses on the quality of its ingredients and mastery of implementation technique, much like traditional Italian cuisine whose reduction to the essentials gives it its power.
This is followed by a club version of „Believer" with added drive and energy, but without sacrificing any of the original's sincerity.
And as B-side comes „Arp Piano" that is the result of a self-built digital instrument, where Johannes Brecht manually sampled each note of his studio piano and through the input of simple commands creates arpeggiated staccato melodies.

A nice, deep, feelsy prog and pure trance mix, unintentionally heavy on the Pure Trance/Pure Progressive labels but they really know how to do it. This mix took parts of my Best of 2023 trance mix which never came to be, and resurrected and refreshed them with some other tracks I've loved for a while. An auditory journey from 120 - 135 BPM. Headphones on, volume up, and escape.

Two helpings of powerful and chunky progressive trance here from Canadian producer Gradwell. The 125bpm World To Come is first off the blocks; dark and moody chords set the tone, tube saturated real-world synth elements weave around the minor key; this is proper, heads-down four-to-the-floor business. On the flip we have the 128bpm Club Mix of Awakening that featured on Kristina Sky’s Disc 1 of Pure Trance Vol. 7 recently. Rich ride symbols and timbales are worked into a 303 bass groove, acidic synth lines interlace and we get a grand melodic unveiling at the break. All together, serious progressive trance for connoisseurs.
