Claire Egan has been in studio on a few occasions in the last few months and recording of her debut album is well underway. Her sister, Sinéad, has been providing some accompaniment on guitar. A recent studio out-take that we shared on social media prompted an immediate and overwhelming response, hinting at what we anticipate will be a very well received CD in 2015.
Claire has been immersed in the great music scene of London listening to the likes of Brendan Mulkere, Brian Rooney, Sean Casey and John Carty. Claire is also a Masters graduate from the prestigious Royal Academy of Music, London and performs extensively with ensembles and groups around the world. Her music speaks for itself; it is creatively exquisite with an effortless touch that produces a style of her own.

This is a set of Breton and Galician tunes with a great story behind it involving Eoin, a bike and a speed bump.  We put this set together in a small, sweltering hotel room in Albiez-Montrond, a remote village in the French Alps. 

Speed Bumps

There’s a tree, and it’s been there as long as I remember.
When I’m gone that tree’ll still be standing in its place.
And there’s a river, deep and wide, winding through the timber.
It may slowly change direction, but it moves on.

There’s a mountain, tall and grand. Nothing’s gonna move it.
Rains may come and winds may blow; that mountain’s still right there.
And there’s the sun and moon and stars, see the light shine through it.
Maybe you can’t always see it, but they’re still there.

There’s a silence in the night. There’s no need to fear it.
Silence just means all is well, the world is safe ‘round you.
If that silence breaks, you know, listen when you hear it.
It might be the wind – it’s saying, “I love you.”

I can be a tree for you, I can be your mountain.
I can be a river, the sun, moon and stars.
I can be these things, and more, when those sheep you’re counting.
Just remember, when you wake, I’ll still be here.
