But who said weird is a bad thing? The whacky synths and squiggly rhythms he injects into this are the kind we love, so when the epic string work and rattling tribal drums seeped in on our first listen, we instantly stamped it with that A* grade.

'Lidl Girl feat. Arno Joey’ is the sensational third single to be taken from Popof’s huge hitting album ‘Love Somebody’ released on Hot Creations last year. This mammoth package comes with remixes from industry heavyweights Kerri Chandler, Magda, Carl Cox and Shaun Reeves & Tuccillo.

House music legend Kerri Chandler has produced a prolific body of work since his first release in 1991. He serves a classic slice of house music with intricate percussion and solid groove, while Magda offers a stellar version where quirky beats and spacey stabs are the serve of the day.
Carl Cox is a true veteran in the industry at the top of his game with a worldwide radio show and immensely successful residency at Space in Ibiza. Masterfully he spins the original into a rolling techno beast for those peak time hours.

Shaun Reeves & Tuccillo delve deeper for their remix with penetrating atmosphere flowing across a punchy groove. The pair released their first collaboration on Visionquest last year and have since been working in the studio together on various forthcoming projects.

Aus Music follow up a string of records from fresh signees Paul Woolford, Tom Trago and Recloose with the return of a long term friend and label favourite Marquis Hawkes. Hot on the heels of his recent LP ‘Social Housing’ - the Berlin based artist lines up ‘Doornroosje’, a tight a two-tracker that remains consistent with his output on Aus: dancefloor-focused jams suffused with simplicity and soul.

‘Discopuss’ kicks things off with a potent combination of samples and hardware as sassy Funk samples are propelled by tough crunching drums. The title track then follows up with piano stabs and busy, percolating synth lines driven at a pacy rate to rapturous effect rounding off another solid addition to Aus Music’s catalogue.

The CDs were preceded by warmly welcomed new reissues of Terra and Fuego, stretching out over a luxurious 2+ hours of prime techno. 'Diablo' kicks things off, sounding as fresh as the day it was unleashed in 2008, and is accompanied by the Carlo Lio remix that pushes its muscular driving vibe into a new territory. Dios also appears with the rework from Jon Gaiser, via his Atheists Anonymous Remix, crystallizing the original’s 10 minute form into a taut, powerful six minutes of dance floor gold. The new track 'Humano' appears here in four glorious versions from the original via newer interpretations from Hatzler, SHADED’s Summer Skin Remix and the Victor Ruiz mix.

Kicking off CD2, 'Fuego' burns as brightly as ever with additional heat added by Julian Jeweil’s masterful remix, while 'Terra' gets the treatment by the ever dependable Joseph Capriati. Three different mixes each of 'Aire' and 'Agua' complete the package, with the combined talents of Matador, Peter Dundov and Detroit’s own Carl Craig rounding off the compilation in particu- larly fine style.

Both Dubfire and Oliver Huntemann have pursued their own paths that have seen them reach dizzying heights within the techno world, but these recordings and their expertly curated reworks will remain a benchmark for many.

As a special bonus, both the digital version and the Double-CD (via a download code) include an hour-long 'Retrospectivo'-mix by Dubfire & Oliver Huntemann.

Returning to the AEON imprint for his second release this year, Denis Horvat is fast becoming one of the underground’s most hotly tipped artists. Having earned his stripes with a string of standout releases on imprints including Innervisions and beyond, Denis is one of 2016’s strongest breakthrough acts and continues to go from strength to strength, both in terms of production and his electrifying live sets.

‘Mother’ is a further testament to the Danish powerhouses’ talents as a burgeoning producer. After masterfully building anticipation with a series of quickening beat loops and intricate synth formations, Denis quickly finds the groove with this record, creating a momentous track that is just as at home in the main room as the after hours.

‘Mother’ also comes with an additional remix from Fur Coat, that cleverly rework’s the original’s plethora of bass-heavy tones, while cleverly managing to stay cohesive to Denis’ version, and the whole release in general.

Belgian pair GoldFFinch are releasing a brand new 12" at the start of December on FUSE Music, which is a new label set up by noted Brussels Techno instituation Fuse (the nightclub has been in operation for over two decades now, one of the longest running in Europe). Previously, the imprint released their first 12" by Psyk and now they are following it up with homegrown talent. The record comes at the end of a big year for GoldFFinch, which saw releases on the likes of Souvenir, Valence, Get Physical and Turbo Recordings. Today, you can enjoy a taste of 'Nova', the lead from the new release, only on When We Dip.

While playing around with these new toys they ended up with this monster acid riff which became the backbone of this track. After playing it out a few times they realized they had a real stomper of a track on their hands. On remix duties they have the mighty Ambivalent who has crafted a timeless techno gem and the super duo of DJ Lion & Tomy Wahl who have given us yet another peak time Tech House stunner. Plotting new routes from where they last dropped us off in 2014 with ‘Exit’, and presented in Miss Kittin’s own artwork, the two long term friends and musical kindred spirits cover a side each with two version journeys you’ll never forget.

Kittin jumps straight on the autobahn in a tank-shaped techno hummer. Thumping the tarmac down with every gas-guzzling kickdrum, lights blur and trace and the mission gathers momentum as we cruise almost majestically into a brighter unknown.

Dubfire brings us back home via the trusty widescreen house plains. Roads running parallel with the grand, emotional highways he once took as Deep Dish; the vanishing point is far on the horizon where a vast sky of twinkling stars opens up with a feeling you could ride for days on end.

Nightlife’s International treasure, Heidi is back with the second release on her label project, this time presenting ‘Jackathon Jams feat. Alexis Raphael & Marc Houle’. With bubbling UK talent, Alexis Raphael at the helm and a remix by Items and Things label boss Marc Houle, this is a nifty little collection of club weapons with that all-important Jackathon swagger.

Heidi started her Jackathon Jams imprint earlier this year, bringing Miss Kittin, Maya Jane Coles and tINI together in one tidy package and is next championing Alexis Raphael, one of London’s favourite DJ/Promoters. With a handful of sensational tracks under his belt (on Hot Creations and Lower East) and running one of London’s most popular club nights Crèche, it’s no wonder Alexis has caught the attention of Heidi.

Delivering two special productions for the imprint’s sophomore release, both tracks carry a nod to retro house with some offbeat modern flavour. A-side ‘Brickwall’ kicks off with sauntering percussion and a rubbery bassline soon to be invaded by wonky synths and FX along with a central vocal line. Second original ‘You Can Do It’ follows in a similar vein with another distinctive spoken male vocal entering the pulse of the rough-edged, jacking groove.

A superb Marc Houle remix rounds off the package as the Berlin pioneer takes ‘Brickwall’ and bestows his own stripped back and expansive approach, warping the vocal to form a barely recognisable framework then unleashing darkly seductive chimes, building the drama with big beats and abstract melodies.
