Since I posted Episode 34 (Eagle Mix), which was about 6 months ago, a lot of exciting things have happened that I'm really grateful for. 

I spent most of the summer helping build and work for SOL Pool Club, and then after the season was over, I started a business with two great friends of mine called Honey Group. We throw weekly events in Buffalo that average anywhere from 600 to 800 people a week, and we book different DJs to help create exposure for them and build community through dance music. Along with the events we do consultations for other hospitality and night life businesses. It's all been really well received and I'm excited to keep pushing along with it. 

However, over the last 6 months, I've been averaging anywhere from 10 to 40 hours of DJing live per week. This doesn't include event planning, organizing, unrelated work, and the added hours that come with all of it. Don't get me wrong, I love DJing. I know it will always be a part of my life, but I was just so starting to get so fucking burnt out! 

I was doing so many impactful things with dance music "in the real world" that by the time a Friday to post Ryan's Radio would creep up, I could barely muster the desire to make one and upload it. Weeks would go by and each time I'd try over and over to create something that I was personally happy with. I'd draft a mix, and then I'd stop because it didn't feel like what I was creating derived from a place that was authentic, intentional, or even enjoyable for me to listen to. I came to the realization that my battery was running low and I needed to recharge before it died altogether.  I had so much internal difficulty with this because beforehand I felt as if I didn't really have an "off" button. When I processed what was happening and accepted how it made me feel, I advertently decided to take a break from posting mixes weekly. 

The entire reason I started DJing in my bedroom during the pandemic was because I wanted to listen to my favorite tracks in a certain way. I loved everything about the process of mixing. From the technicality, the challenges of organizing a library, curating the songs I'd play, thinking of ways I'd mix them together, etc. When I first started, I didn't care if people loved or hated my mixes. I loved it because I had ownership of it and it was enjoyable. Even if I didn't produce any of the songs on a mix, the entire compilation felt like it was mine because I listened to it and would get excited. It made me feel something. 

This mix in particular isn't even that crazy or technically difficult. From a high level perspective, it's just songs I like a lot or have modified in some way. I like messing with the pitch because I jive better to brighter frequencies. I like messing with the tempo and increasing it because generally speaking I feel like I move pretty fast.
