New year, new sounds! Introducing Truancy Sessions, our latest mix series dedicated to elevating the underground music scene. With eight episodes per season, we'll be looking to amplify the voices of emerging DJs and longtime Truants friends, all while collaborating with talented designers and artists. Our mission is to cultivate connections and celebrate people with an ear for music from every corner of the globe, be it people we've seen on our travels to friends we've made at festivals and clubs. For our first season, we'll be collaborating with the exceptional designer Kushagra for all things artwork, and for our debut episode we have a seamless blend of mesmerizing grooves from San Francisco-based suade (@whoissuade) for a transportive musical experience. Here's a glimpse into what suade has in store:

"This mix is a cruise through some records I know I’ll love forever - rolling, percussive, driving, and euphoric sounds. Put it on for a nice drive, a long run, getting ready for a party, or maybe just to hype up your work day. I spend a lot of time in the shapeshifting, hyperactive world of bass-driven music and I have an equal love for timeless grooves, long blends, and dreamy sounds. Sometimes these feel like mutually exclusive worlds as a DJ. The latter is what I’m reaching for these days, in a slow and reflective period of my life, and what I bring to the mix. It consists mainly of records from the mid 90s to early 2000s with some newer releases sprinkled in there. I decided to avoid maximalism and opt for a steady ride through a few key ideas. I’ve been wanting to record something like this for a while, so I’m super grateful and happy to be sharing it here. I hope this hour and twenty four minutes locks you in and is something you can come back to. Enjoy"

Resident Advisor is wrapping up the year, and alongside our best-of-2024 records and tracks lists comes our favourite party: Barcelona-based platform MARICAS. The self-described "loving and pervy LGBTQIA+ techno collective" started in 2018 when ISAbella, Eloisa Blitzer and graphic designer Gina Guasch decided it was time to create a fun space for queer women and nonbinary people in their city. Since then, MARICAS has become a celebrated international series, revealing in its ascent how much of the techno scene—even in its queerest corners—continues to cater to men.
In this RA Exchange, the trio talk about their humble origins as well as the ongoing obstacles they face in promoting the party in the face of discrimination. Performance plays an important role in their events, and they take an entertaining trip down memory lane, discussing some of the most outlandish theatrics and installations that have made it onto their dance floors: a Catholic confessional booth where the priest gave kisses, a livestreamed toilet stall where people undressed in front of the camera and a make-out session from figures covered in paint. Underneath the showmanship, however, is an unwritten code of respect and acceptance that extends far beyond the rave—their mission is to transform the social taboo surrounding difference into a positive force in our world. SOPOR 2025 es una serie de mixes de música electrónica contemplativa curada por @didacta, presentada como residencia del colectivo bogotano Mariposa. A partir de la segunda semana de enero, y con una nueva entrega cada dos, este espacio acogerá exploraciones sonoras profundas y conceptuales.

El ambient siempre ha sido un género con el que conecto desde un lugar más íntimo, una pausa necesaria frente al desborde de emociones y pensamientos. No sé si es casualidad que este mix haya llegado en un momento crucial y de cambios en mi vida; se vuelve en tanto un proceso natural traducirlo en música, casi como un diálogo interno que genera calma y narra lo que ahora experimento. Traducir lo que no siempre sé expresar en palabras y compartirlo de una forma genuina. Un mix cargado quizá, de atmósferas y texturas tensionantes, pero a su vez tan digno de ser ignorado.
