Summoning the early rave day spirits once again, veteran British producer and DJ @neville-attree returns to Globuli with the second act of his two part LP, ’The Ghosts of Askers Motel’

Completing the narrative after the glistening first act, Neville explores ecstatic acid house, baggy electronic dub and writhing electro - heavily laden with this own vocodered vocals and signature synth melodies, soundbites, samples. 

A fully balanced and well extracted blend of early 90s basement vibes and bittersweet contemporary pop-house, Act Two wraps up a huge body of work, consolidating 20 years of friendship and collaboration between Attree and Globuli label creator Ed Davenport, who helped compile, mix and master the LP.

Blasting off with a purpose, ‘One Day’ is a crisp moment of piano-house bliss. Heavy sub basslines and breakbeats come alive amongst a bubbling, emotional club burner. That's followed by the cavernous electro of ‘Save My Soul (Again)’, carrying a poignant message at its arpeggiating, robotic heart.

Classic acid house references and dubbed out piano stabs feature heavily throughout Act Two, elevating the listener to heightened states - both the dusty vinyl apparitions of ‘Xtro AAcid’ and the chugging, Weatherall indebted daydream of ‘Inner-space’ come on in a synthetic rush of multicolour waves.

Capturing multiple snapshots in time spent on the dance floor, in the DJ booth, the after-hours on the beach and the long journey home, Neville’s skills in sonic storytelling really shine in this accomplished and honest portrait of a true acid house convert, now in his fifth decade and going stronger than ever.

As Neville’s ghostly female accomplice remarks on the fuzzy electro-pop throb of (the perhaps autobiographical) ‘Capture my Imagination’:

“…it’s safe to say the life we chose is not for everyone!”

It's the super-soulful fusion of Blaze legend Josh Milan and talented, fast-rising producer Matthew Bandy. Stylish yet utterly heartfelt, Wish is Foliage Records' latest, impressive gambit to seduce quality house floors around the world.

Milan effortlessly performs his own lyrics about painful yet irresistible love over rich, multi-layered production from Bandy. Deep, driving drums and ripe, melodic b-line compliment swells of synth, immersive key solos, and smart percussive kicks; in turn, providing the perfect soul-stirring sound-bed on which to lay those wistful vocals. And then come top-draw remixes from Frankie Feliciano and Tribe man Zepherin Saint - the former 'Ricanstructing' with jazzy, afro-skip finesse; the latter adding sassy new key and piano work. There's feeling from every angle...

Wish is Milan and Bandy's first hook-up together. Milan, with nearly 30 years of soul-dance pedigree as half of mighty New Jersey house outfit Blaze, is currently developing a new live instrument-led house project Honeycomb Music to, already, huge acclaim. London-based Bandy, meanwhile, has been making recent waves with Papa Records, his own Limestone Recordings label and, of course, Foliage; he made his debut on the label in March via sweet Adrianne Archie-fronted joint We Can't Loose. All this follows on from lauded work alongside Chez Damier, Jay Tripwire and Aaron Ross.

The pair offers a more than convincing match for this next weighty Foliage foray into soulful clubland. Song and production are totally made for one another, teasing out new moves and emotions with every play, and remixes add depth not decoration. Here is a very real kind of house record, the kind you can't help but embrace and lose yourself in. True Wish fulfilment!
