'Painting 2020', Emmet Brickley

Speculative Chartographies is a new, ambitious, multi-faceted interactive artwork created by artists Gianni Laneri Deforne, David Mathúna, Rory Malone and Marjolein van der Meer.

Over a period of two months, events were held at four East-Berlin locations where interviews with the public were conducted on the topic of the future of public space - each line of questioning depending on the given location; how do we imagine the future of transport, of borders, of security, of play?

The information gathered served as the inspiration for location-specific augmented reality sculptures created by Rory Malone and a GPS-spatialised sound-walk designed and composed by David Mathúna, transforming the borderlands of Kreuzberg, Neukölln and Alt-Treptow into a veritable audio-visual treasure hunt.

The spatialised sound walk encompasses an interactive score of four movements activated by the visitor’s relative GPS position, each sonic movement containing audio collected during the events held at their respective locations, interwoven with spoken extracts from Isaac Asimov’s ‘The Last Question’ - each with its own distinct aesthetic atmosphere composed in reaction to the location and its events.

Circadian

I came a cross this photograph 'Untitled' (cropped here by sound cloud) on Celeste Burdon's instagram and heard something in my mind's ear as I looked at it. I decided to create a sound piece in reaction to the photo in attempts to translate the atmosphere of what I heard. Celeste graciously allowed me use her photograph in this upload; you can find the link to the image on her instagram below.

Made using a DSI mono Evolver and a Soma Lyra 8, the latter of which my housemate tells me he often mistakes for weather when he hears my playing it in the morning. Headphones/speakers advised.

A message to avoid the Mess Age.

This project took place in the Exploradores glacier, a 23km long ice tongue located in chilean Patagonia, which has been heavily affected by climate change in the last decades, retreating more than one centimetre per day since the start of industrial revolution.
