She busted through the gates of Hell, the story I heard tell
Is Lucifer angered his only daughter
She left to prove that she could be, a better harvester than he
Bring  more hearts and minds down to the slaughter

Beguiling, beautiful is she, that smile throws off so much heat
Her Raven hair it shimmers like a flame
Those dark brown  eyes, two endless wells, many men gazed long and fell
Drawn like moths, they’ve just themselves to blame

She is Demon Seed and she’s what I need
When she looks at me I start to teeter
I will not dispute she’s forbidden fruit     
But she makes Hell seem a whole lot sweeter

She can smolder, mesmerize, haunt, entice, and traumatize      
The strongest man with the smallest gesture
A come hither finger wave, can make you crave an early grave

I've heard it said, that once we are dead
Our soul goes to Heaven or Hell
The latter for those, who thumbed heart and nose
The other for them who lived well
Where they'll get a mansion as big as Manhattan
With everything they'd ever need
Who wants that much room to clean wash and broom
That don't sound like Heaven to me

I've heard the story that those bathed in glory
Will pray and sing praises all day
They'll walk streets of gold, never hungry or cold
Til eternity passes away
No challenge before them, just unending boredom
Where each task is conquered with ease
Hallelujahs and Amens, but no bowls of ramen
That don't sound like Heaven to me

From the stratosphere, they'll see those they hold dear
Suffer the world and disease
They'll hear the screams of the damned in their dreams
How could they ever find peace

The dawn's early rays, wash over your face
You smile as the sleep leaves your eyes
And as the world wakes up in the quiet of our first cup

I find it odd that Men of God,
Put their faith in a proven fraud
So he may one day grant what they require
To brickwall those who might abort 
Yet offer no help or support 
For babies that the parents don't desire

It’s out of place that those of faith 
Can carry in their hearts such hate 
For those who live and love 
true to their forms
Affirming that their ancient tome 
Compiled by Constantine of Rome 
Claims male and female are the only norms

Hawk a product you don’t get til you die
Promise you paradise, or fiery Hell, roll the dice

The profits that the prophets see 
Benefit no one but their greed. 
Not satisfied with tithes they ask for more
They ask for planes, fast cars and boats
Command their sheep to cast their votes
For those whose lies are keeping people poor

Some stand and preach prosperity 
While He who said “come follow me”
Loved lepers, sinners, fishermen, and whores
Said wealthy men would reach the sky
Once camels walk through needles eyes
“Sell all you have and you'll have something more”

The rich who with their power seek
To enslave the pitiful and meek
Line their golden pockets even more
Want walls, cages, and riot gear, 
Return those souls who traveled here, 
Keep tired huddled masses from these shores 

I find it fun in just one land 
That God  and Guns go hand in hand
While foreign congregations speak of peace

I'm Leo Mascioli,I have invested
My blood and my sweat and enjoyed success
I  developed the north, but I was arrested
Without warning

Shackled, detained, treated like a criminal 
By those who would not dare question the hymnal 
I'm happy to say, the abuse was minimal
Then one morning

I'm in Petawawa at the King's pleasure
Away from my home and all those I treasure
They say they will review my case at their leisure
Will they let me go

We're not poorly treated, I find hope in letters
With each one my son says my chances are better
Daniel is keeping my old life together
He's worth his weight in gold.

Men of note are pleading my virtue
Saying "this is an honourable man and we urge you
To please reconsider, for he would not hurt you
He's a loyal soul"

Ran the cage in the No5 Shaft at the Mine
It wasn’t the backbreaking work of a mucker 
At four bucks a day they were doing just fine 
Mike Parnetta, and  Melvin Markoscic
Two Ukrainian boys from Old Saskatchewan
Who, three weeks ago, came here seeking their fortune, 
By working a drill, in a hole underground.  
 
Damn the Dogs, damn the cable
Why was I unable to keep these men safe, as they went down the mine?
The dogs had been tested, the cable inspected 
Yet somehow they failed and all 16 men died 
 
Eino Niemi was learning the ropes from Russ Dillon
A gunner, a hero, come back from the war
The sample gang’s a good job with no heavy lifting; 
They watched over and carried small light bags of ore 
Eero Kohtala was laid off in Whitney, 
‘twas a reluctant return to the mucking machine
Tauno Voulitainen couldn’t stop smiling, 
His son, in the Navy, coming home on leave
Marvin Appleyard, shouldn’t have been there 
Coughing and wheezing, he should have stayed home 
And young Larry Dubeau who’s dad gave up his spot 
So his son could impress his new crew down below

Ubald Legault was thought the only survivor, 
So heavily injured, at surface he died

I have made my way to Canada and there is much to tell
I’ve met Reverend Fitzpatrick he has offered me employ
At his Reading Camps up north and I am anxious like a boy
Here awaits a new adventure in a land vast and untamed
On the frontier I am riding rails to places yet unnamed
Do not worry dear sweet Katherine this is something I must do
And as soon as I am settled darling I will send for you

I’m now working at MacDougall Chutes and I am in good health
The men who are my students and I work side by side

Then when evening comes we gather in the makeshift reading car

Come gather 'round children, I'll tell you the tale of a lion that lived in the snow
A rough, tough survivor who often prevailed, he was minus a tooth and a toe
Leo the Lion was larger than life; he was always the star of the show
And he took great pride in the place where he dwelled in the gold  fields of Ontario
 
Young Leo got started delivering letters, and soon he would know everyone
He had big ideas how this place could be better, and so for king did he run
With only a dream, that young silver-tongued devil convinced people he was the one
Once on the throne the king sometimes played jester, Leo sure liked to have fun 
 
Leo the Lion was a passionate soul who would do anything for his kingdom
Leo the Lion spun stories to gold, his heart was true and people loved him
Yes, those were the days we'd all laugh, dance and sing
Back when Leo the Lion was King.
 
The Queen of England one day woke to find that her busbies were weathered and worn.
How would she look in the eyes of the world, with her bearskins all tattered and torn?
Leo said “My Queen, please don't be alarmed, for your highness, we'll do what we can”
The world press reported that sixty two bears went from Timmins to Old Buckingham. 
 
Leo the Lion was a passionate soul who would do anything for his kingdom
Leo the Lion spun stories to gold, his heart was true and people loved him
Yes, those were the days we'd all laugh, dance and sing
Back when Leo the Lion was King.
 
Leo never lost the love of the game, he encouraged all children to play
When his teams needed things he couldn't borrow or beg, he'd reach in his pocket and pay
 
He knew his kingdom surrounded by riches would be better off if it grew
The mines would pay taxes the dominion would prosper and all folks would receive their due
So with his plan he went to see the man who could make this wish of his come true
The largest realm in the land was put in Leo's hands, back in 1972

This has sat unreleased since then. The members of the group are David Michael Hartt (Vocals, Keys) Mike Mitchell (bass) Michael Chabot (drums) and the late Richard Dion on guitar.

She says i have a way with words
I can get my point across
There's not much i haven't read or heard
But now i'm at a loss
There's something i need her to hear
How can i make it clear?

Its gone far beyond those four letters
How can i convey
This thing i need to say
When i'm with her i am whole
She's the bread that feeds my soul
She's part of me to the core

It's more than i have ever felt
With others i have known
It started out much the same
I can't believe how much its grown
It"s more than what i thought could be
How can i make her see?

I Don't Love Her Anymore

David Michael Hartt is a singer/songwriter originally from Timmins, but now living in Owen Sound ON. He has worked with many talented musicians from Shania Twain to Larry Jensen.  His writing style is in more of a storytelling vein as can be seen in his first album “Our Stories” which has songs that tell 10 stories of his hometown of Timmins, ON.  This is to be followed up in late 2023 with a second 10 song collection called “More Stories” which will continue to tell the stories of events and people of note. 
The newest release is “Keep On Driving”. The songs on this album were written mostly over the last few years with a reworking of a 1986 song, “When You Look Up At Night” and the inclusion of “All My Life” a song recorded with his old band “Longshot” in 1987.
David likes to inject a little humour in his songwriting but can write a great love song and does not shy away from wearing his strongly held beliefs on his sleeve. 
Apart from the aforementioned Longshot song and first single “Demon Seed” produced by the very talented Michael Lanteigne of Canadian Country Band Johnson’s Creek, the rest of the album was recorded, mixed and mastered at David’s home studio, with him playing or programming all of the instruments. 
As he is a prolific songwriter, another album is on the horizon for mid-2024 tentatively titled “We’ll Always Have Main St” which will contain some collaborations with other songwriters and musicians.
Presently he is looking into assembling a band to perform the songs from “Keep On Driving”, as apart from the odd open mic, he has not performed live in over 20 years.
