Dave Seaman & Anthony Pappa - When We Dip 155 (Live @ Stereo Montreal)

It’s hard to believe that Balance Music has been around for 25 years. When we first started, there was no grand plan—just a love for electronic music and a desire to share it. We never imagined that what began as a small project in Australia would grow into something that reaches people all over the world. 

Later this year, we’ll mark this milestone with a huge venture as we travel to Croatia to host Balance Croatia Festival, the first-ever music festival dedicated to progressive and melodic house. This is going to be a moment 25 years in the making, and we couldn’t be more excited!

Last year, to commemorate the 25 years, close friend of the label and an artist we deeply admire, Joe Miller, curated a countdown of his favourite Balance Series mix and track entries—an effort that showcased his deep connection to the label’s history.

Now, as he prepares to release his new solo EP, Planet is Far Away, through Anjunadeep later this month, Joe has once again taken the time to celebrate 25 years of Balance Music with a mix that is hard to put into words. This incredible retrospective reimagines key moments from past Balance Series compilations, weaving them together in a way that feels both fresh and deeply familiar.

For this month's Unrush mix, we're excited to feature Eric Cloutier - a true digger with a deep history in the scene and an ear for detail. His 90-minute guest mix flows through warm, textured ambient with darker, rhythmic turns: subtle, patient, and always engaging.

Cloutier’s path has taken him from Detroit to New York, where his years as a regular at The Bunker New York helped shape his distinct style: deep, body-oriented music with a strong sense of narrative. Now based in Berlin and a resident at Tresor, he continues to bring that same focus and depth to clubs and listeners around the world.

With a straightforward, no-nonsense approach, he has spent years honing his craft. His label Palinoia - named after the act of repeating something until it’s mastered - reflects that mindset: a home for stripped-back, dubby techno and lesser-known talent that fits seamlessly into his sets.

A true digger with an ear for detail — this mix is one to sit with...

This is my set recorded Live at Lo Lounge Cardiff Bay on 10th May 2025 for Fixate.
The sun was baking down on us and some shapes were thrown. Thanks to those that came down and partied we had a wicked time and met some amazing people and fellow DJs.

If you haven’t been or heard of Fixate before I strongly recommend you check out their events in Cardiff. These guys really know how to put on a party. Absolutely superb.

Anyway I hope you enjoy the music, there’s lots of new tracks plus a few of the underground classics for the spotters.

By the mid-’90s, while peak-time anthems dominated global dancefloors, Melbourne started developing its own dialect—a darker, more hypnotic sound rooted in restraint. At its core was a small community of DJs and producers, united by a shared refusal to chase trends.  The sound they conjured was haunting: progressive but with a sparse architecture which created ample space for atmosphere. Indeed, a Zero Tolerance track spilled across the dancefloor with the tension of a coming storm. Uncompromising, yet cerebral.

To supplement our deep dive with Gab Oliver (see link above for full feature), the label head compiled an exclusive mix filled with fresh label cuts released on the label since its 2021 relaunch.

Melbourne’s DJ Be Kind to Other People has built a reputation through kaleidoscopic sets that are joy-positive. Equally at home alongside Australian crossover acts like Sneaky Sound System and Flight Facilities or deep in the sweat-soaked confines of the city's infamous Revolver Upstairs club, he thrives on a versatility which bridges scenes without ever compromising his identity.

His unique journey has already taken him to Burning Man (USA) and Devconnect (Turkey), with his next international appearance set for our inaugural Balance Croatia. Beyond the booth, he hosts Coburg Up Late, a talk show filmed in his garage featuring global and local dance music names.

On this Balance Selections mix, DJ Be Kind to Other People lets his personality shine across two hours of lush house and progressive. Featuring tracks from Gai Barone, Monkey Safari, Hannes Bieger, and more, it’s a vibrant journey into the mind of a truly idiosyncratic selector.

Chad Jackson Live at The Barley Mow, Selmeston 9-8-25

My set going back to the 100th 'Machine' way back last July to kick off proceedings before making way for Echoplex.

This was the 1st of two sets that night, as I found myself doing an hour of some very chunky minimal beats upstairs later on in the night.
This first set I had a lot of fun putting this together, there's no beats until the 14th minute, very satisfying.
