One of our favourite producers Javier Ferreira returns to Side Up Works but this time accompanied by the prominent French producer MMYYLO, together they give us a bomb EP, which will be the eighteenth edition of the Catalan label. This explosive work contains two very strong original tracks that are accompanied by more heavy artillery from the hand of the renowned Mexican producer Cabizbajo, another monster of Dark Disco that brings a super powerful and demolishing remix, but the thing does not stop there. Kat Yusti, Colombian DJ and producer who, influenced by Post Punk, Darkwave and Cold Wave, brings even more consistency to the EP and gives us a dark and electrifying piece to put the strawberry on the cake and make this new work of Side UP Works is simply great.

Destination Madrid: Penrose Records founder David Ponziano returns to the controls with two high voltage originals and remixes from Alvaro Cabana & Julian Sanza and Undo…

‘Blindfold’ taps into a vibrant, poppy, synth-heavy sound. Sitting somewhere between Kraftwerk and Underworld with an added vocal call to action, this pushes all the right buttons with an unrelenting groove and strong sense of triumph running throughout. Remix-wise these elements are flipped into a deep cosmic chug as 2020 Soundsystem / Silver City maverick Julian Sanza and Holographic Planes’ Alvaro Cabana go dark mode with an absurdly powerful and heady workout. 

The work continues with ‘Where You From?’ A dramatic slab of bleep-fuelled tech that’s reminiscent of the mid 90s German Tresor sound. Rising and rising with tension and just the right amount of theatre, this one asks all the right questions and your dancefloor will guarantee a reaction. 

For a deeper perspective head to Undo’s remix. A foreboding and stern take that nods to the legacy of Black Strobe, this one pulsates with tension as we march into the future. It’s a reminder that things aren’t always about where we’re from… It’s about where we’re heading.

French artist Back From The Wave joins Roam Recordings with two original hypnotic burners. The EP starts with Brothers which builds with lush pads and gritty sythwork. Mother’s Mind takes a more reflective approach and continues to build the trance inducing journey of the EP. The EP is backed by remixes from French compatriot Endrik Schroeder and Roam alumni Rigopolar. Endrik Schroeder is up first with his dreamy and melodic take on Brothers. Rigopolar rounds out the EP with a laid back version of Mother’s Mind with beautiful vocoder work accentuating the mellow vibes.

Berlin-based multidisciplinary artist anbu translates femine energy and sweet melancholy inspired by retro songs and all variations of “waves”s and takes a darker approach with ‘Phantoms in the Forest’.

PREMIERE - Azaria - At The Gates (Massimiliano Pagliara remix) (Penrose)

On the road for a little longer than a year now, the cool Mexican label Kyma Komplex has been featuring some of the finest artists of the so-called Indie Dance/Dark Disco scene plus some spot-on flirting with other genres such as House, Techno, and Trance. Sixtoagusto (SXDNS031), Diaz Tech (SXDNS089/FREEDL013), Mad Slow, Mverto Futura, Manu Barcelo (SXDNS344), Edd Brave (FREEDL033), Cali Burton, Seli (SXDNS360), Corresponsal, and Veltran (FREEDL050) are just a few of the names on board. 

For its next instalment, the rising imprint opens its doors one more time for the skilled Brazilian producer Lucas Novaes, who debuted on Kyma with a remix for Mad Slow’s “Detroit” released last year. For his forthcoming “Ganas” EP, the Paulista artist invited some interesting names for the remix duties: Ludmila Fuks (SXDNS361), Abby Knives (SXDNS299), Pvlomo (SXDNS098/FREEDL045), and Panko delivered shiny contributions to the EP.

Premiered here, the title track presents its credentials from the very beginning with its super fat bassline perfectly paired with rhythmic synth layers and stabs. The ominous vocal hooks, which cannot go unmentioned, deliver a stunning ghostly aura to the rich theme despite its minimalistic construction.

Petrvs is a DJ and hardware live performer/producer based in Paris. As a DJ, he proposes dark intensifying journeys ranging from downtempo and dark disco to heavy EBM. As a producer, he offers loops and tracks driven by powerful acid basslines with a setup of vintage synthetisers.

Petrvs is part of the duo Supertubos (full hardware live project) since 2017 and founder of Kasa Obake Records, a recent label focused mainly on hardware production since 2023.

Premiere: Oscar Escapa, Linear Phase - Recoded [Drumcode]

Speaking Minds return to Aeon with their first EP on the label, after a remarkable appearance as remixers on Dodi Palese’s ‘Black Drop Effects’.

This release starts off with ‘JSB’, a captivating and hypnotic affair enhanced by perfectly crafted delayed synths creeping out of the background. The constant darkness in harmonies and pads takes the listener through a brilliantly thought out progression and leaves them wanting for more after this 9-minute trip ends.

‘Yaoundé’ continues on this melancholic vibe, while bringing forward a more cinematic and even more chilling side from the Italian producers’ music. The main ambient lead develops beautifully, alongside many synth harmonies, and offers a contrast with a pushing drum section. This track is reduced to its essence, with crisp shakers and hi-hats bringing a drive to the intense atmosphere created by numerous harmonic layers.

Closing off this EP, ‘Paradise’ features a drunken melody evolving all through the track; a hook that is celverly completed by a pad halfway through. The arrangement, natural and flowing, makes every element of this trip shine, from the discrete chords in the background to the main synth line.

Speaking Minds have truly spoken with their heart here. This is a collection of masterfully crafted tracks full of melancholy and passion. Prepare to be taken aboard this cinematic trip...

AEON has been in musical rude health of late, with Speaking Minds, Amarcord, Lauer, Fort Romeau, Moscoman, Kincaid, Joris Beismans and label boss Alex Niggemann all bringing the heat. Now, continuing the high level of quality, up steps Israeli man of the moment Jenia Tarsol with two classy Italo influenced cuts on his 'Strom EP’.
The title track, ‘Strom' is a playful workout, featuring hypnotic low-end organs over a simple but irresistible groove which draws you in before a high-end organ motif adds a real element of light heartedness to the track with a melody that’s sure to get stuck in your head and bring a smile to all but the most chin stroking clientele.
‘Nosisi’ is a more serious affair but still retains Tarsol’s trademark drum programming and a dance floor friendly vibe. Hooky disco influenced Guitars are the order of the day here, used to subtle but devastating effect before whispered vocals add an etherial edge to the soundscape. Remix duties are fulfilled on this EP by Panthera Krause and Uriah Klapter. Krause leans yet more on disco flavours with his take on Nosisi, with a Moroder-like baseline locking the listener in early before a powerfully atmospheric breakdown delivers the ‘spine tingle’ moment. Klapter takes Strom down a more menacing path with industrial percussion elements dominating, before a driving baseline picks up the pace and the low- end organ makes its self known. 5am vibes a plenty on this moody groover.
All in all another stunning package from the in-form German label.
AEON take over Oosterbar in Amsterdam on October 19 for an ADE Special with Alex Niggemann, Fort Romeau, Jenia Tarsol, Speaking Minds and Kincaid.

Incisive and breathtaking, David Ponziano is a Madrilenian artist, who radiates personality inside and outside the DJ booth. This is precisely his trump card, the one that gives him the winning hand in his moves. He has the club in his veins, many hours of experience behind him, a wide vision and few prejudices. These virtues make it hard to resist his musical assaults and the public in his habitual residences, at parties such as Replay, Reclub or Motel, is well aware of that.
 
His sessions are constructive, formed by musical lines that diversify and combine to build a union of sounds that can range between disco, house, deep, techno or acid, without losing coherence within the musical discourse. He is definitely an old school DJ, one of those who knows what he is doing and enjoys dancing and feeling the beat.
 
The preamble of his relationship with electronic music comes from the mid-90s, when the last gasps of EBM and new wave conquered his heart to the rhythm of sharp bases, aggressive guitars and rough synths. From those days to the present time the paths have been many and diverse, reaching their peak and acquiring sense in the mid-2000s, when he began to release his first music publications under the pseudonym Play The Game. In the meantime, he studies sound engineering and launches his own mixing and mastering studio, Peak Studio. Nowadays and after several and successful adventures as a promoter in other brands like MOTEL, he is running his own club: HALLEY.
 
His career as DJ and producer is acquiring greater dimensions day by day with releases on labels like Alma Soul Music, Lust Recordings, Cuatro Records or Parallel, as well as with remixes for artists like Alexi Delano, Matthias Vogt (Motorcitysoul), Julian Sanza or Boghosian & Torquato and with his active residences in Replay and Reclub. In brief, the last four years have been very intense, enabling him to be positioned as one of the most active and popular artists in Madrid's underground scene.
