04 Practice Makes Progress - 3rd Graders

Based on a true story, with legislation by Missouri Rep Bill Clay Jr. who introduced  a resolution to rename a portion of a highway outside St Louis after a civil rights icon.  This caused the KKK, who'd applied and been accepted to the "Adopt-a-Highway" program to refuse to continue cleaning the highway they "adopted", resulting in their sign being taken down.

This is played on a triple chambered ocarina in one take with no overdubs.  The instrument is made of clay and fired in a potter's oven and comes from my 3rd CD (0f 13) "Nights at the Chez".  The title is an acronym for "Nothing On Earth Is Worth An Unspent Life".

This was written for the Songs of Love Foundation in New York.   Since 1996 they've been providing custom-made songs for kids with health challenges and their families - absolutely free.  I've contributed about 80 of these since 1998.  This is a good example!  Very meaningful to be involved with Jon Beltzer and this great non-profit.

Exactly fifteen years ago today (12/21/05) on the Winter Solstice I had my thyroid surgically removed in Boston to address my thyroid cancer.  The Solstice is "the day more light comes into the world".  Yup.
