	Anybody who performs music live does covers - sometimes to make up material, sometimes because it is a favourite song, and sometimes, as in this case, out of admiration for a great songwriter.   Amos Moses was a regular request at my gigs, perhaps because it is such a good story.
	My apologies to fans of the late, great, Jerry Reed if this does not reach an acceptable musical standard.

Lyrics:
	now Amos Moses was a cajun 
	he lived by himself in the swamp 
	he hunted alligator for a living 
	just knock 'em on the head with a stump 
	the Loosiana law gonna getcha Amos 
	it ain't legal huntin' alligator down in the swamp boy 

	now everyone blamed his old man 
	for making him mean as a snake 
	when Amos Moses was a boy 
	his daddy would use him for alligator bait 
	tie a rope around his leg and throw him in the swamp 
	alligator bait in the Loosiana bayou 


	'bout forty-five minutes southeast of Thibodeau Loosiana 
	lived a man called Buck Mill South and his pretty wife Hannah 
	they raised a son who could eat up his weight in groceries 
	named him after a man of the cloth - called him Amos Moses

	now folks 'round south Loosiana 
	reckoned Amos was a hell of a man 
	he could trap the biggest the meanest alligator 
	in his huge right hand 
	that's all he got left cause the alligator bit 'im 
	left arm gone clear up to the elbow 

	well the sheriff got wind that Amos
	was in the swamp huntin' alligator skin 
	so he snuck in the swamp gonna getcha boy 
	but he never came out again
	well I wonder where the Loosiana sheriff went to 
	you can sure get lost in the Loosiana bayou

David Scott Weaver is an award-winning songwriter who has earned recognition in the Mid-Atlantic Songwriting Contest and the Blues and Roots Radio International Song Contest.
