Bedroom Bluegrass was recorded in my bedroom in Berlin during and in between quarantines. Featuring Casey Driessen (track 3), Dan Caton (track 3), Ben Somers (track 3, 10), Daniel Lee (track 6), George Crotty (track 10), and Sophie Sutton (track 12), this album is a fusion of semi-bluegrass-centric influences. Not as many lions this time.

"Hikoh" when written「飛行」means “flight” but written「弾こう」means “let’s play (music)”. I started writing it as a harmonic exercise on an ostinato but it ended up having a lot more to say, exploring the intersection between music and flying.

Chill Like That

When Radiohead came out with their most recent album "Moon Shaped Pool," I was blown away by their use of textures and instruments -- to me it was a beautiful marriage between their minimalist record Kid A and their more-or-less impressionistic/harmony oriented In Rainbows. I instantly fell in love with Decks Dark and wanted to cover it since. After spending a week with the most insanely talented violinists I have ever met, I felt just inspired enough to make this. All sounds (including the drum tracks) were made on the 5 string Yamaha Electric Violin (YEV 105) through a Boss multi effects processor and Boomerang phrase looper.

A culmination of my time at Chris Howes' Creative Strings Workshop at Ohio Wesleyan University. The previous cover I put up (Moonshiner) was done at the beginning of the week when the program just started. Crazy that it flew by so fast.

Decks Dark

VioLion was written and recorded between September and November of 2016 in Ann Arbor, MI. It is a solo debut intended as an embodiment of my musical tastes and an exploration of the violin's capabilities. Each track is an original composition which features a combination of three violins (violin by William E Hill and Sons 1914, Realist 5 string acoustic electric, Yamaha 5 string electric) and vocals.
