Solid Shape Mix 002 : Dawad

Pour cette 1ère émission de la saison des Rendez-vous Lao, L'amateur a réalisé comme une mixtape, ce genre de compilations uniques et sur cassette patiemment enregistrées comme un mélomane des années 80/90.
Un truc assez personnel, plutôt "écoute domestique" que "house music ». Pas trop de mix ici, plutôt des enchaînements fluides et quelques ruptures radicales, une sélection assez bavarde, la plupart des titres sont chantés.... 
un florilège pas toujours léger mais souvent aérien, avec des disques vinyles qui le suivent depuis quelques décennies et d'autres fichiers plus numériques découverts récemment... 
Tous sont des coups de coeur de digger amoureux mais pas fétichiste.."

RDV LAO E1S4^^^^L'AMATEUR^^^^Radio Grenouille (12.10.2023)

@phred-noir is the co-founder & art director of « @la-dame-noir ». Based in Marseille this record label is well known  for running the first venues (Bar & Club) 100% devoted to Dark Disco and Indie Dance from 2009 to FUCKING COVID.

This allowed Phred Noir to play almost everywhere in Europa & Asia and also to share many times the booth with Andrew Weatherall, Laurent Garnier, Red Axes, Pachanga Boys + everybody that counts in this Dark Disco/Indie Dance scene.

This year, Phred Noir has been putting La dame Noir Records back on tracks with releases by daWad, Did Virgo, Aurum & Miss Zagato + starting to produce tracks with daWad, waiting to go back to production with his other project alongside Remain: « Slow Porn ».

Phred Noir also started to promote a weekly residency @ Vice Versa club in Marseille and he is starting to plan a 2024  tour in Mexico & Asia.

What's inside the head of a young kid who likes Radiohead, Vox Low, underground electronic music, and is an accomplished classically trained musician, multi-instrumentalist, and performer? A plethora of insight and knowledge. What shall be done with such gifts? Easy: Use a blender to combine every single influence amassed since childhood and end up making his/her/their own music.

Bobby Langfield, whose life story in a nutshell you have just read above, is the mastermind behind the brand-new UK-based Indie Dance project OBOST, and his debut EP is coming hot on NEIN Records at the dusk of the year. "I Don't Care For You" presents two interesting originals and two sturdy remixes made with love by none other than Fabrizio Mammarella and Tronik Youth (SXDNS050), the label honcho himself.

Premiered here, Maestro Mammarella's take of "I Don't Care For You" brings the original to the peak-time realm. The peculiar distortions and bouncing gait of the title track gave him necessary room to add his very own signature sonority with fatter and heavier elements which brought even more clout to the very first release of the aspiring artist.

One night.

Hypnotising bodies by the harmony emanating from the booth, with the conscience that something rare is happening, the transformation of affinities of one evening into bonded comrades, a sort of pact of sound in the style of Coppola's Outsiders.

WHO THEY ARE :
One managed the IRM label which released Traumer's first records and drank in wave (new, dark, synth), preferably English.
REMAIN passed via Rinse, Rex and a plethora of releases, while curating his own, MEANT Records.
The two share an obsession with the 90s, sometimes organic and saturated, sometimes melodic and synthetic.

THE FUTURE : 
The remainder of our 20s and all the years to come just have to watch out: the REMAIN+daWad duo present We Are Le Turfu.

REMAIN + daWad - We Are Le Turfu (Mix for Lumière Noire)

Set to arrive in September, ‘We Are Le Turfu’ is the debut collaborative effort by creatively curious French producers REMAIN & daWad. REMAIN is a well-known Rex Club resident,
founder of Meant Records, and has a plethora of releases on labels including Throne of Blood, Darkroom Dubs, and Death On Wax. He is a man of many simultaneous projects, namely Danse Alice, which has previously released on Lumière Noire.
 
daWad has co-managed the IRM label which released Traumer’s first records, who came from a musical family with his pianist mother and his grandfather an organist and harmonizer for a church in Provence. With releases on KNTRL, La Dame Noir Records, Beachcoma and more, this new project marks his debut on Lumière Noire.

Their duo alias known as ‘We Are Le Turfu’ was coined one night, playing records back-to- back, dancefloor receptive, captive, grooving, and bursting at the seams. With decades of experience under their belts, this three-track EP is the first studio effort of the combo and flawlessly embodies the delightfully dark, cybernetic electronica CHLOÉ’s avant-garde label and club night is renowned for.

Opening track ‘Shame Shell’ see’s REMAIN & daWad enlisting a harsh, wintery mix of melodics to clash menacingly with the track’s probing bassline. Whilst somewhat sparse in parts, these producers have curated a deeply atmospheric and mesmerising composition, employing spidery synth patterns alongside mechanised percussion to produce a gloomy, sub-aquatic soundscape.

‘Still Care’ weaves sinister electronic measures with cutting EBM-like motifs. The track’s abrasive inception, which features a coarse cluster of murmuring overtones and hypnotic drum rolls, methodically grows in stature and before-long bursts at the track’s mid-point to make way for glacial strings which adds an icy ambience to this dark, cosmic roller.

A special remix on this release comes from Charlotte Bendiks, an artist from Norway who focuses on alluring dance and body music. Although her main genre is classic house, her sets are inspired and influenced by music ranging from disco to African groove and Latin beats. Her live vocals and percussion, as well as integrating other musicians has become somewhat of a trademark. Her remix for ‘Still Care’ takes the original into a more
downtempo, trippy edit.

The first single ‘Same Shell’ will be released on the 13th September and ‘We Are Le Turfu’ EP will be available from 4th October on Lumière Noire Records.

Norwegian duo Ost & Kjex make a welcome return to Crosstown Rebels. Their Private Dancer EP is a masterclass in producing dance-floor ready rhythms. They welcome fellow Norwegian Whalesharkattacks to the mix to provide her dark yet dreamy vocals.

“We had a fascination with Tina’s Private Dancer since first being exposed to it by Pat Sharp on Sky Trax in the 80’s. Whalesharkattacks personifies everything that’s cool about the 80’s, so when we met her we knew we had to cut a version” Ost & Kjex

Private Dancer is as dark as it is melodic, with eerie drum pads and a medley of dreamt synths. Norwegian vocalist Whalesharkattacks, whose music has been described as 808 goth, lends a distorted vocal. On Nightingale a burdenging bass adds a sense of urgency interlaced with vocals reminiscent of the 80s era. Cosmic synths float side by side samples of beautiful bird song. A titillating work of art with a mesmerising beat.

Ost & Kjex met at school in their teens, bonding over a love of skating, punk and death metal. Their band, Beyond Dawn, released six albums between 1990 and 2003. Fast forward to 2018, and their shared love of music has developed into electronic productions and creative live shows. Their debut album as Ost & Kjex Some But Not All Cheese Comes From The Moon in 2004 was made entirely of sounds from cheese and biscuits. They’ve played at an eclectic range of venues from Thai restaurants in Moscow to Panorama Bar in Berlin and car launches in China.
