Fliptochrome!! The original Cryptochrome is by far my favorite song that came out in 2022. Around a month ago while walking to class, I was playing it in my head at house tempo, improvising some changes to fit a 4 on the floor pattern, and something about it really clicked with me. It started as just a quick little experiment to see what it would sound like, but I had so many ideas that it eventually grew into a full song!

I wasn't sure what to call this exactly; it's not really a remix, since the drops mostly use the original song, but I'd like to think it's more than just an edit, so I settled for flip.  I also feel like I learned a lot about mixing/mastering while working on this too, so I'm glad I saw it through to the end. Hope you enjoy!!

(feel like I should also add that neither the original nor this version has anything to do with a certain chain of blocks, it's just a word that sounds cool)

Au5 - Cryptochrome (Dawn of Apples Flip)

My first time hearing the original song was in my DAW at around midnight, with the stems freshly downloaded. I just kept looping it over and over again, soloing different combinations of instruments, and something about that listening experience really struck a chord with me. I hope I was able to transcribe that magic into this remix, and I hope you enjoy.

blissom - moment5 (Dawn of Apples Remix)

I was going through old projects the other day, and found this among them. I knew it was something I started last year, but apparently I had literally finished it and just forgotten about it. There are things I didn't notice before that could use fixing with my new and improved mixing/arranging skills, but oh well. It's a product of its time (and by "it's time" I mean like 5 months ago)

This is one of my favorite Au5 songs from a songwriting perspective. There's a chord in here that I've been internally calling "The Atlantis Chord" when I use it in my own songs. (I believe technically it's some special voicing of a dominant 11, could be wrong though) It was a direct inspiration for my anv7 song, and I really wanted to create a version of it that emphasizes the deep, mystical mood it has. I don't consider this a 'completed' song, as I feel this idea has much more to explore, however, this is a mark of what I was able to accomplish within the given 24 hours, hence the title. Comparing my ANV7 song to this one, though, I'm insanely proud of how far I've come, and I'm excited to see where I'll go from here.

Phosphorus (ANV8 Demo)

I initially wanted to have this finished in time to celebrate the release of Chime's album Aetherborne, but I kind of let time get away from me. This song has always felt like it would fit right into the Aetherborne world, at least aesthetically, and it's one of my personal favorites of theirs, so I wanted to make a version that's a bit more relaxing; to really let you immerse yourself in the soda. Bottoms up!

Chime - Soda World (Dawn of Apples Chill Mix)

The moment I heard the original song for the first time I knew I was a fan; it's just so endlessly inspiring, and the lyrics really resonated with me. This originally started out as a random test to see if I could do a minimalist drop using the original's off-kilter rhythm, but I had so many ideas for it that it turned into a full aquatic-themed remix. I'm extremely grateful to @alixcarolan for rendering out the stems for me to use as well. Hope you enjoy!!

SÍODA - Lightshade (Dawn of Apples Remix)

I started this thing in December of last year, and it was basically almost finished, but for some reason I forgot about it until now. The mixing on it is pretty rough, but I figured it was close enough to being done that I might as well post it. If anything, though, I like to think it shows how far I've come since then.

I love Xtrullor's new stuff to death, but out of his older stuff, this one always stuck out to me. Something about the piano in this one always felt so grandiose in scale, even putting it on par with Supernova in my eyes, which is what drew me to start a remix of it. Hope you enjoy!!

My first time doing all of my own vocals!! It was a really tough challenge for me, considering I've never sung professionally in any way, but I'm glad I finally took the plunge covering one of my all-time favorite songs.

CloudNone & Ella Vee - Let the Music In (Dawn of Apples Cover)

This song happened on accident one night. 

It was a very busy week for me, for school and music. I was about halfway done with a much sillier song I was working on with a friend. It was for an online "make a song in 5 days" event. For some reason, whether it be creative spirit or an insomnia-induced delusion, I felt compelled to start another one.

When I opened the project file the next morning, all I found was a sine pluck set to play random notes from the chords to a Mario Galaxy song. 

As it turns out, stars come from the night.

Mama, Where Do Stars Come From

A year or so ago, I spoke to a childhood friend of mine whom I see every now and then. Growing up, we'd occasionally end up having pretty philosophical conversations about our lives; or at least as philosophical as children can get. We're much older now. 

If you happen to read this, I hope it isn't too weird that this moment stuck with me in the way that it did.

Mixing aside, I wrote this song start to finish during the last hours I was able to spend with Smudge. It was peaceful. 

He was a great cat. Very loud. Very large. Very funny. 

I'll miss him.

This is the first VGM Remix I've done in a while, and I'd like to think I've improved a bit since the Team Galactic one, even aside from me switching to FL Studio. This was a massive mashup to tackle, but I'm very happy with how it turned out.
