Funkyjaws Music keeps on keeping on with its Let's Dance series, which now hits volume number three. It is another doozy that follows the tradition of bringing together four different and equally able artists on one 12". Jacques Renault kicks off with some funky and disco-fried fun on 'Such A Tease' and The Patchouli Brothers take it old school with their steamy disco burner 'Wishin' U Would Call.' The flipside keeps the good vibes alive with some lovely cowbell action and mad-funky riffs on Paul Older's 'Dancin' On Your Mind' and then a little steamy psyched-out guitar magic defines the glorious closer 'House Of Rising Sun.'

The Sly Players - Turn You On (umbo&pips rmx)

Mash & Munkee are Kolja Starkowski (aka Deli-Kutt) and David Hanke (aka Unifairfly/Renegades of Jazz) and are based in Wuppertal and near Hamburg, Germany. Kolja was DJing and David was running a radio show before they met online at the record database site Discogs and, after discovering a common taste in music, teamed up to form Mash & Munkee. The rest, as they say, is history!

After a series of well-received singles on labels such as Backslide, Jack To Phono, Funk Weapon and of course Hero Records they spent time compiling and remastering the best of these releases and writing new tracks to compliment them and ended up with this amazing debut album. Taking musical influences from all over the world this album contains the straight up funk of the single “Superbad” and the scratch-filled b-boy grooves of “Here We Come!” together with afrobeat and latin influenced groovers such as “Kibo” and “Venga Veras”. From downtempo hip hop head-nodders like “Mexican B-Boy” to the faster tempos of the dancefloor-filling nu-funk of “Make A Difference” this album encompasses all that we at Hero Records love about music. As the title of the A-side hints, 2 classic samples from David Axelrod (famously flipped by Doctor Dre) and Clyde Stubblefield have been combined to create a new twist on a hip-hop staple. If you’ve seen the Daytoner live show, you’ll have seen them open with some of these samples, embellished with live vocals, brass and FX.

On the flip, ‘Ooh Lalo’ is another instrumental twist for DJ’s and this time, the samples wisely used in a big-beat classic have been re-edited to include more of Lalo Schifrin‘s amazing brass and piano instrumentation, underpinned once again with Apache drums to create a rousing big band beat for breakers.

The first copies of the limited edition 7” vinyl sold out on the Bandcamp page inside 2 days but Dinked have also now made this available  in selected vinyl shops including Juno Records from Friday Jan 3rd 2020.
