Invitée dans l'édition digitale du joli Radio Meuh Circus Festival de 2021, voici un de vinyles principalement diggés par dela l'océan atlantique en Guyane, en Guadeloupe et à Trinidad, lucky girl i am!!  
On y trouve du  gwo-ka de Guadeloupe, du compas d'Haiti, du Kaseko du Surinam, du zouk, des sons de Guyane, de Trinidad, de La Dominique et même une sortie toute barrée jusque La Reunion (où j'espère aller digger en vrai!)
Désolée niveau technique, la qualité du son, l'équalization etc mais c'est des vieux vinyls et ils ont la magie :)

From half a world away in the Pacific Northwest, Audiophysical (Andre Lamb) reached out to Wallace in the South Pacific about a spaced out Wurlitzer driven Neo Soul odyssey he had been brewing up. The decision to collaborate was a quick one and was fueled with NZONAIR support. 

Wallace Gollan’s jazzy tone and vocal flair, lend themselves perfectly to the lush bed of strings, keys and warm bass lines in this catchy tune. Lamb has long crafted deep instrumentals set to boom-bap influenced Neo Soul beats and breaks. The pairing yields a cinematic journey of downtempo Dreamtime and this is just a taste of what is to come from Audiophysical.
Produced by Lamb and mastered at Kog, this track has a crisp sweet quality to it and would fit on most chill or light night playlists. So sit back, relax and enjoy this latest offering.

Merging of the combo Forró de Rebeca, which gathers its inspiration in the large North-East Brazilian cultures (Samba de Coco, Capoeira, Baiao, Maracatu…), and the US producer Maga Bo, also founder of “Tropical Bass”, Sociedade Recreativa invites to a powerful journey in the heart of an imaginary territory where electronic arrangements give new life to the ancestral rythms.

All is about meetings... Specially in Lyon, french capital of indie music and electronic cultures. Benefiting of a privilegiated playground – “les pentes” (slopes) of Croix Rousse, the musicians of Forró de Rebeca and the universal beats ambassador Maga Bo met during the summer 2014. They immediately get along with each other!

Their paths are crossing exactly where the North-estearn roots of the franco-brazilian trio dives into the electronic music deep waters, while Maga Bo, living in Rio de Janeiro for fifteen years, can’t stop focusing on the Brazilian Nordeste. The artists multiply the trips between Lyon and Rio de Janeiro. From one shore to the other, Sociedade Recreativa keeps experimenting and finally creates a new style, an « half-way » transatlantic sound. They book an appointment to record their first album during the summer 2015. The musical palette of the project is enrich by other artistic meetings, such as the Occitan flow of Papet J (Massilia Sound System) or Flavia Coelho’s feline voice.

Then comes the step of the explosive live show creation. Thanks to the help of La Cité de la Musique de Romans and the Projet Bizarre in Venissieux, the artists move directly from studio recording to artistic residencies. On stage, the festive energy of Forró de Rebeca troubadours naturally mixes up with Maga Bo’s musical patchwork. The music themes find a new meaning, somewhere between contemporary music innovation and traditions sophistication.

BBC6 Music broadcast of this new edit on The Craig Charles Funk & Soul Show on 17th Nov 2012. Craig's intro provides some of the back story and here's a little more info...

For some time now I've encouraged Paddy (Daytoner Bass Player) to try a bit of crate digging if he's passing local charity shops, so a few months ago, whilst browsing a St Ives store, he found a vinyl from a local jazz band in the 1970's and excitedly brought it straight round to the studio.

He turned up and simply said "I've found this" and was beaming. So it went straight on the 1200 and from the first few seconds we knew it'd be good and when the brass hit there was shock all round and unanimous expressions of "oh what is this?" On his very first attempt, Paddy has struck gold, plus it was locally made too! According to the sleeve notes the LP was recorded in the Grand View Hotel in Newquay in 1976/77 and we were itching to know more.

After a few searches it soon became clear that Mr Rodd's orchestra was somewhat legendary in years gone by and that Viv was the Jazz tutor at a local college. After a few weeks we tracked him down, enjoyed a lovely chat and I'm hoping to meet the man very soon! I'll provide an update on completion of the edit (after the proposed rendezvous) and I'll also post a 320 mp3 of the final version too.

In the meantime this is a work in progress, a basic edit of 'Changin With The Times' a title that couldn't be more apt for this project.

Destined to become a world-class burner EP pressed on high-quality vinyl and released April 2013-Cheick Mix highlights an ancient-to-the-future aspect of  Cheick Hamala's breadth as a genre-bending experimental artist who has one foot firmly planted in tradition and roots but also a keen focused eye on the limitless possibilities of cross-cultural exchange via global collaboration with artists outside of his legacy as a griot.

Cheick Hamala Diabate is a musician from Mali, West Africa who has been nominated for a Grammy award. Using Adelphi, Maryland as his home he travels all over the United States, Canada, Europe, and Asia. He has performed at the Kennedy Center, the United States Senate, and the Smithsonian Institution. Cheick Hamala was born into a griot family in Kita, Mali. From a young age he learned to play the ngoni, a stringed instrument related to the American banjo. In addition, Cheick has learned the history of Mali passed down for over 800 years. Cheick has performed internationally. He is recognized as one of the world's masters of the ngoni, a Malian traditional instrument and a West African historian in the Griot tradition.
