Tokyo’s DJ Sodeyama returns as The People In Fog this June, delivering his new album under the alias, ‘1977’, via Japanese imprint Sound Of Vast.

Yoshifumi Sodeyama better known to most as DJ Sodeyama has been a driving force in the Japanese underground electronic music scene for many years now, over the past decade and a half he’s been releasing his Techno material via the likes of Nina Kraviz's трип, Dynamic Reflection, his own Arpa Records and more. Here though Yoshifumi shifts focus to his The People In Fog guise with his new album, the alias was started in 2013 and is a project based on house grooves and unique beats. After the debut album ‘A Ray of Light’ was released eight years ago, he delivered three EPs for Sound Of Vast established in Amsterdam, among which, the ‘Higher’ EP turned out to be a big hit.

Across the ‘1977’ LP, named after the year Chicago’s highly influential Warehouse was born, Sodeyama presents a range of styles in the field of House, from percussive-led, hypnotic offerings like opener ‘South Jefferson’ and ‘Less Is More’, the jazz-tinged aesthetic of ‘No Boundaries’ and more groove driven compositions like ‘Come To Me feat. Monkey Timers’ and ‘Mr. Dub’ which lay focus on swinging drums, snaking bass grooves and chanting vocals.

The final three tracks from the vinyl part of the project also shine a light on some acid house influences with a recurring theme of squelchy 303 lines amidst ethereal pad textures, dynamic drums and infectious vocal hooks. Also on offer as digital bonus cuts are the low-slung acid workout ‘Platz feat. YOSA’ and the shuffled deep house sounds of ‘Burnt feat. S.O.N’.

‘1977’ presents the accumulative knowledge and experience of a DJ career which reaches beyond 30 years and further showcases Sodeyama’s passion towards music, all compiled into one long player.

'Protocols' encompasses 10 immense and seasoned tracks that are sure to satisfy your appetite for deep subliminal techno and dub sounds. Gradient, a household name in the genre, has highly regarded releases on a multitude of labels including Greyscale, ZeECc, Entropy, Space Of Variants and U-Cover. 
Ranges is the ideal landing pad for possibly his most notable and daring yet. 

'Protocol 1' begins this long player with a hypnotizing foray into a prime example of techno minimalism. Akin to Juan Atkins's 'Starlight', this is master class in well-placed and crafted sounds working together to form an addictive repetition. Creating a harmony to where the listener loses all sense of time as this track pushes to the 10-minute mark. 
'Protocol 2' steps up the house elements to where the dancefloor has to be the perfect place for this number. Hypnotic is an understatement as layered percussion drives a subliminal build up that is sure to create a frenzy of anticipation. 
'Protocol 3' takes us deeper while not losing the focus that this is a techno album. The beats are pronounced throughout Protocols and the slightest changes accentuate each step along the way. 
'Protocol 4' eases off the pressure to create a more translucent and airy production while the catchiness of the sounds around each other stay balanced and consistent. 
'Protocol 5' ups the dub feel considerably, marking the middle point of the albums total running time. The chord work being the true differentiator here. Parts 6 & 8 get granular with their signature chord squiggle making you reminisce of classics like Saavas Ysatis where the hooks enslave you. 
Similarly, 'Protocol 7' rides a more house angle that reels you in happily. Some tracks give off a disorientation of twisted chord work while the beat drives on the importance of keeping things moving and sounding fresh. These tracks stay true to the dub techno formula in every way. Highly addictive and giving a DJ the confidence that these tracks will destroy a heated dancefloor. 
Having Gradient slide into Ranges roster was only a matter of time. 
Gradient delivers the goods and Ranges continues a strong run of top-tier releases.

t's out of the shadows and into the light with the next release on Ornate music. At the reins is OCH, a name you might not have heard in a while, but whose solid and reliable CV names Sect, All Inn, Baby Ford's Trelik and PalL SL among his label references. In all honesty, it's like he never went away. We get three cuts of precision deepness. Lean, rather than minimal, these are fat-free, perfectly balanced excursions into the ethereal edges of house. Tight claps, subtle, eerie vocal samples that drift in and out of the mix, the mood is uplifting without any need for euphoric histrionics. This is refined music that won't sound out of place on the floor at CDV or Sunwaves or in the meantime, kicking back at home when the sun unexpectedly brightens the winter mood. if you ever wanted to know what a beautiful day sounds like, now you know.

Berlin-based Frenchman Alexkid lands on Rawax with ‘Wake Up’, a fantastic new album that explores acid from many different angles.
As an early protagonist in the 90s Parisian electronic music culture, Alexkid has been paving his own path for over two decades. Obsessed with drum-machines since his teens, he is a skilled producer and sound engineer who imbues his productions with real soul and warmth, even releasing his own lauded Ableton Live Plugins. He is a Rex club resident, released albums on Laurent Garnier's legendary F Communications and has also appeared on labels like FUSE London, Rekids, Ovum, Freerange, and
Underground Quality. With this new album he proves once again why he is so well respected by presenting eight acid laced beauties on the infamous Rawax, following appearances from iO (Mulen), Shonky, Enzo Siragusa, Julian Perez, and Diego Krause. 'Kick It' is a bristling, in your face and pricking acid banger with restless 303 lines spraying about above
punchy kicks, the mood switches up for the headier and dubbed out, but still acid laced, 'Le Manteau d'Argent', and 'Tribute' then takes you down a deeper, more shadowy and sparse late night path with a warm, bubbly acid bassline leading the way. Sublime atmospherics characterise the spacious, deeply cosmic 'Revolutions' which has contorted drums and bass making you move, followed by the physical force of acid head wrecker 'No Hiss'. The
excellent 'Idle' strips things back to a propulsive drum groove and a molten sub pattern, 'Yussuf Is In Control' is led by the sort of prying, freaky lead synth that is perfect for the afters, 'Your Love Is Fading' is a masterful track of suspensory synths and soulful vocal sounds all fused to a brightly airy house groove making this another fantastically accomplished album from one of the best in the game.
