Deep in solitary lockdown, Hamilton has been crafting these next cuts with the meticulous precision. These two tracks present the perfect backdrop for his comeback, presenting him as a veteran artist who effortlessly combines the famed 90s vibe with contemporary production. 

And after the ongoing success of his Schema EP, as well as the huge reception to his release ‘Fire/Be There’, this is a welcome return. 

With pent up aggression and pounding breaks, ‘Feel the Fury’ rolls out first ominously. Cracking high hats and quick-fire percussion adds a layering that helps carry the record’s forward motion. Alongside a bassline that coils, and then lashes out over a plunging drop, you’re thrown between the snap, crack and whip of a hugely intricate composition. Hamilton is back… And he’s here to re-educate you with his unfaltering skillset. 

On the flipside, ‘Track 8’ is an innovative slice of drum & bass which is both fun and drivingly relentless. Bouncing subs, coupled by distorted synths take you through elevated note patterns of gradually building, musical imagery. It’s a steppy riddim, one which doesn’t completely crash on impact but instead is creeping in its intensity. It’s Hamilton at his most diverse, yet again proving the versatility in his craftwork.

With another stunning delivery from Hamilton, 2015 is setting a precedent. One which the producer is sure to ride out into the future.

We figured it was time for some d&b again, we had a few tracks lying around for a while that we wanted to finish and put out and we had 2 collabs that went well together. We wanted to call it the 'Tryhard EP', cause all the tracks were so full on. Then Nik & Karol (khomatech.com) started on the artwork, and couldnt really come up with anyuthing cool with that name, so we decided 'Imperial' was a better name. The artwork took about a week to make. We are very proud of this EP.

Imperial w/ Phace 
Phace came out to Groningen again, as he tends to do, to do music. We started this one without working on the main groove first, Florian had brought this awesome chord progrssion. We made the intro and progression from it, which is quite different musically from our normal stuff. Then we went a bit theatrical with the music, i guess we kind of suprised ourselves with the intensity of the drop. But it was refreshing to do. And it´s been going down rather well in our sets..

Tryhard 
This is an older track that has had quite a few incarnations. It used to be called ´lomp´, which translates to crude, or blunt. We had it lying around unfinished for a long time, and a certain youtube set rip was getting a lot of love, so we figured we'd finish it. Changed the mix, added a rollout section, etc. One of the inspriations for this track is Bad Company - 'Dogfight'.. such a sick tune.

Dustup w/ The Upbeats 
Our friends The Upbeats came down to Groningen amidst one of their Europe tours and we hung out, got in the studio, found an old unused bass riff, used it in the buildup, recorded all of us going 'HA' and 'ZU', worked on drum fills for a long time, temporarly called the tune 'Pumpers', jumped around in the studio and voila! 'Dust Up' was born.

Containment 
This track has had many faces also. It started as a bit of a Kemal tribute and and an attempt to do as many things with synths as possible, like the main drums for example (FM8). Along the way it became a journey back into the dark spacious sound of early 2000 era D&B.

Nine years after the release of their pivotal ‘Halo’ E.P on Viper, DC Breaks are revisiting two of their oldest and most well-loved releases, ‘Mankind’ and ‘Halo’. A celebration of the duo’s long and incredibly successful career that has seen releases on Viper, Ram, Virgin and more, DC Breaks return to the label where it all started for something really special. 

‘Halo VIP’ is a reimagining of their debut EP’s title track, maintaining the powerful atmosphere of the original but making it bigger and better than ever before. In revisiting the classic tune, the duo have been able to amp things up a notch, blasting their way through 2019 with this killer dancefloor weapon. By going back to their roots and using everything they’ve learned in the past decade, DC Breaks are able to deliver such a special, seminal release that will attract old and new fans alike. 

‘Mankind 2019’ is another shining example of how far DC Breaks have come since its initial release. Capturing the energy and feel of the original, DC Breaks have infused a plethora of new sounds and techniques into the mix for a result that is exciting and fresh while still paying homage to their roots. Although DC Breaks certainly set the bar high with their initial release in 2010, the duo’s creativity and skills have unquestionably reached new heights. 

While fans of drum & bass are often treated to VIPs of their favourite tunes, it’s not often a talent as prolific as DC Breaks is able to respectfully reimagine not just one, but two timeless tunes, in the way that DC Breaks have managed to. Exuding new levels of energy and creativity, these two tracks are set to demolish dancefloors across the globe, and are the perfect celebration of the duo’s roots on the label.

Drum & Bass duo DC Breaks have made their way onto the widest range of playlists. Their hardcore club cuts have been rewound by the likes of DJ Friction and Andy C. On the other hand, the songwriting ability displayed on the single ‘Faithless’, featuring Bianca, has plastered them all over the radio. That’s just the tip of a very large iceberg. DC Breaks have earned their stripes in the underground but, with an album due in the Autumn and a packed festival season ahead, they’re about to explode onto the international stage in a spectacular fashion.

Since signing to Andy C’s Ram Records they’ve carved a reputation for delivering world class remixes for some of the biggest names in pop. Their work on singles by Paloma Faith, Lady Gaga, Lana del Rey, Tinie Tempah and others, and production for Example (a cut on the ‘Playing in the Shadows’ album) woke the pair up to the possibilities offered by vocalists. It was the start of the journey that led to the forthcoming album, packed with crossover cuts such as the piano-led ‘Breathe’ featuring Dave Gibson, with its contagious, urgent chorus. Or the soulful explosion of ‘No One Like You’ sung with passion by Niara Scarlett. Or the epic blast of ‘Salvation’ wherein DC Breaks take heavy duty bass sounds and tie them to uplifting, irresistible vocal hooks.

Once they graduated to Ram itself, with monster cuts such as ‘Shaman’ and last year’s battering ‘Lock-In’, they hit the drum & bass A-league. Before long it wasn’t just the drum & bass scene paying attention. DC Breaks tunes made it onto BBC Radio via Zane Lowe, Mistajam and Annie Mac.

“Chase and Status opened the door to drum & bass being accepted in the mainstream,” says Dan, “and through that door went DJ Fresh, Wilkinson, and now us.”

It certainly looks that way with appearances at multiple 2015 festivals, including UKF, NASS, SW4 and Glastonbury.

“I love the wildness of festivals,” says Dan, “Like we played on Arcadia’s outdoor stage last New Year’s Eve, in this big tower with fire blasting out of it. I was literally three or four feet directly underneath the flame-thrower in a really small box. If something goes wrong we were literally toast!”

If DC Breaks can avoid being fried by flame-throwers, the summer will be theirs. By the end of 2015, with their debut album blowing up everywhere, the year might well be too.
