Decadent Oasis - Burning Man 2015

I was honored to be invited to play a sunrise set for Desert Hearts 3 this fall.. I decided it would be a great opportunity to repaint the ceiling of heaven with this one.. ;) Give a listen, I think you'll be able to tell just about when the sun came over the horizon... I was once again lucky to be able to share the decks with an incredible group of DJs and, for the first time, contribute to the magic of the Decadent Oasis - Monday Night Welcome Home party. I am so grateful for the opportunity to play and I'm even more grateful to all of the folks who put in many long hours of work in creating such a special atmosphere.

For a long time now, I've collected some music that is quite different from my usual peak breaks sound. I've had a large collection of progressive and deep house I've wanted to play at sunrise and was given this opportunity by the fine folks at Decadent Oasis this year at Burning Man.

As the light shone over the "palm trees" and the sun started to shine on everyone's faces, a couple dozen skydivers with tails started to descend from the sky. A perfect, magical, playa moment.

This, my first set I've ever played on the playa, is the one I've been wanting to play for as long as I can remember. I've got 30 years of love for electronic music dating back to the days of acid house, but it was TTITD that introduced me to dirty, funky, ass-shaking breaks. The Space Cowboys were a huge influence on me, and I credit my addiction to heroes like 8-Ball, Zach Moore, shOOey and Kap'n Kirk (many of whom I now count as friends). But before there were RSS feeds of tunes or podcasts or a Rockstar Librarian Guide, they were like gods to me. I'd show up to a barren wasteland chasing the bass and when I found it, it was like discovering hidden treasure. Pure bliss. They threw down some of the most amazing sets I'd ever heard, and touched my soul (and my booty) in ways that would forever change me. I credit the Cowboys, Brass Tax, Dusty Rhino, FnF and Opulent Temple (and countless other unknown-to-me playa DJs that drew me in off the Esplanade with your sick beats) for inspiring me to finally pick up the decks and do everything in my power to keep this magical sound alive in both the desert and the real world -- a sound that seems to have become harder and harder to find.

This mix, then, is a tribute. To the producers over the past 12 or so years that this mix covers that created this sound, to the DJs who captured my attention and took me on incredible sonic journeys, to the sound camps that brought the infrastructure year after year, to my dear friend Raj for inviting me to take the helm of the trailer on Monday night, and to the culture that allowed me and countless others before me to share their passion with like-minded masses who live to shake their asses.

Thank you, all of you. This is the set I would have wanted to hear this year, so I brought it. I hope you enjoy.

I felt so inspired by the people present at Decadent Oasis that Monday night at Burning Man. The vibe was great, the sound was on point, and the organizers made me feel right at Home. Thank you to Camp Decadent Oasis for welcoming me to play. Feeling the LOVE!

LeftCtrl —(also known as PolyGroovers, or DJ Zeel, real name: Konstantin Gredeskoul) started DJ-ing in the Bay Area in 1998, having been inspired and encouraged by @djethan Ethan Miller (FnF, BrassTax) among others. 

Konstantin produces downtempo music as PolyGroovers, (see https://soundcloud.com/polygroovers for more information).

Starting with the underground rave parties where he threw down Detroit Techno on vinyl, LeftCtrl played all over the Bay Area, with additional appearances in the UK, Spain, and Australia. 

He collaborated with @kem, Captain Tinrib, @henry-navarro and many more.

LeftCtrl's DJ sets feature a storyline, harmonic depth, and a smooth and deep, melodic, nearly always syncopated and groovy sound. Konstantin is an obsessively technical mixer, who admits to the most anal-retentive pitch-matching of the mixes, resulting in some of his entire sets played in the same key.

Since about. 2020, LeftCtrl refocused on the composition and production of tracks for the dance floor: house, progressive, and many genre bending tracks. Currently collecting sufficient portfolio for the upcoming releases in yet to be determined label.
