Summary: We interview Jessica Bax (Director of Division of Developmental Disabilities – DMH) and Heike Johns (Learning Development Coordinator – DMH) at the Central Office Studio. Both Jessica and Heike discuss and go into detail about the importance of a work place culture and how fostering a positive work culture has tremendous benefits not only on the staff but also for the environment department itself. They also lead us in various ways we can create a positive work culture through small acts of appreciations through appreciations stations established at each office and a virtual appreciation station that staff can go to as well.

Acts of Appreciation

Loving where you work is important. But do you love your place of employment that you would recommend it to others? That’s the topic for this episode. Two DMH employees from the Sikeston and Poplar Bluff Regional Office were interviewed as these two office received the highest percentages of employees recommended DMH as a place of employment for others. Through the interview we talk about the involvement of the ERC (Employees Recognition Committee), leadership, and general relationship with coworkers. Hopefully through this episode listeners will take away key insights and bring them back to their own office.

In this episode of Cultivating Culture we're talking with Nicole Jones on ways to promote and change a work culture. Nicole mentions that work place culture is behavior and that in order to change behavior we need to change the enviornment. This can be done through setting expectation of employees in specific areas of the office, modeling desired behaviors from leadership, ensuring staff have input within their office, and creating positive interactions amongst employees within the office.
