Dankzij het planten van Iepen uit Avignon (Zuid-Frankrijk) klinkt er sinds deze zomer een nieuw geluid in Amsterdam, de cicade.
De cicade komt in Nederland oorspronkelijk niet voor, maar is meeverhuisd in de klont aarde van de geplante iepen. 

Cicadas have been imported to the Netherlands by accident (Elm trees from Avignon) and blend in perfectly with the noisy soundscape.

Drukke tijden in de polder, de vogels broeden er flink op los. Verderop een paar bekvechtende ganzen. De muggen waren zeer benieuwd naar het bontje dat net uit de schapenstal kwam..

De Nieuwe Waterweg bij Hoek van Holland

Blaadjes schuifelen over het James Cook plein te Amsterdam De Protestantse Kerk heeft een oproep gedaan ter ere van de doden in de Malaysia Airlines crash de klokken te luiden. Er klonk wind in populieren en spelende kinderen, maar geen kerkklokken. MS Opname van 15:55 tot 16:01 uur.

Lenteavond een uur na flinke regenbuien in Bos en Lommer. Op de achtergrond is de ring A10 rond Amsterdam goed te horen. De merel zingt zijn lied en er wordt wat gerommeld in keukens met openstaande deuren. Opgenomen op de 3e verdieping vanaf het balkon.

Almost falling asleep to get some good night of rest, before recording the next morning, suddenly this happened. Only a handfull of people watched the fireworks, so I think it was a private celebration of some kind. Nice reflections of the city hall on the square.

If you're wondering what kind of fireworks the Dutch use to entertain themselves. This is a cut down version of 13 minutes on New Years Eve 2019 / 2020 in Amsterdam Floradorp. 
These explosions are a block away from the microphone setup and trigger acoustic reflections and car alarms. I've strip-silenced the original take and crossfaded the regions in ProTools, nothing has changed with regard to sound, only time based editing.

This was a beautiful moment, showing how city residents reclaim public in a very joyful way. These children were playing football on the Dam Square, resembling the Breitner painting of the Dam square with children playing with each othe.

Skaters reclaiming public space. About 10-15 skaters doing their thing, pulling tricks and impressing friends chilling against the cool glass of the Stedelijk Museum. Normally this space is filled with tourists snapping pictures of 'De Badkuip' and taking selfies with Van Gogh Museum in the background. During corona this place is a perfect place to hang out.

The Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal is empty, when the wind blows you can hear the wind chime on top of the Oxford House across the street. It's the most quiet street during corona, with low traffic and less trams booming on the tracks. Pedestrians carelessly cross the street or walk in the middle of the tracks.

Residents of the Red Light District (RLD) having lunch in the sun along the canal. Occupying a space that costs €7.50,- an hour to park your car. Nowadays the RLD is dissected and allows people to sit and enjoy the gentle quacking of ducks while further up ahead the Casa Rossa is being renovated, for better times when tourists are back... and this peaceful atmosphere wil be gone.
